Oversee and manage the tax function for existing and newly built renewable projects/portfolios across the U.S., as well as corporate entities
Engage and manage tax modeling and various forms of federal, state, and local tax, accounting, management, and investor reporting, including tax filing review, taxable income forecasting, partnership accounting, hypothetical liquidation at book value (HLBV) modeling, yield tracking, deferred taxation (ASC 740), and budget vs. actual analysis
Liaise cross-functionally both internally and with external advisors to formulate, analyze, monitor, and implement strategy, compliance, and finance management for direct and indirect taxes
Coordinate on key tax items across the company and focusing on initiatives related to establishing, standardizing, optimizing, and documenting tax processes, workflows, and controls
Oversee and organize tax returns for all required entities, along with tax preparers
Participation in global tax initiatives, especially between US and Canada
Review business transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, as well as tax equity transactions, to identify tax implications and advise the business in structuring the transactions in the most efficient manner
Work closely with the Capital Markets team to evaluate and analyze tax impacts of complex financing transactions including preferred equity structures, mezzanine debt, and partnership flip structures
Manage relationships and coordinate interaction with outside advisor, as well as parent company experts, relating to tax issues and tax matters
Keep abreast of changes in tax statutes and regulations, incorporate relevant change and determine the tax impact
Manage special projects
Requirements
Bachelors Degree in Accounting, or related field required; Masters Degree in Taxation, CPA, or JD/LLM required.
[7-10] years of tax experience with an asset manager, law firm or Big 4 accounting firm required
Technically proficient in partnership tax law and international tax with tax structuring and planning experience
Ability to demonstrate and articulate an understanding of complex tax concepts, including to non-tax professionals
Excellent financial modeling skills with proficiency in Excel and experience using complex models
Solutions-oriented and collaborative – able to quickly identify structural flaws and to propose workaround and solutions to preserve the commercial goals
Familiarity with project or corporate finance transactions and documentation
Prior experience in the renewable energy, power generation or infrastructure space is a plus
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability and desire to work effectively in a team environment
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Attentiveness to timeliness and tight deadlines
