As a Tax Consultant, you will be responsible for ensuring sales tax is properly assigned to all item sold in Publix retail stores, and to remit select state, local, and federal taxes accurately and timely. This associate also has the responsibility to compile information for state tax refunds and audits, and responsible for communicating with customers who believe they have been taxed incorrectly.

Responsibilities of include:

• responsible for ensuring sales tax is properly collected on all products sold in retail stores and safeguarding Publix from millions in tax liability
• responsible for assisting with Sales Tax Refunds and Audits
• responsible for maintaining local tax in PIMS and preparing the following monthly local tax returns
• responsible for preparing excise tax returns
• responding to questions regarding sales tax and food stamps from customers, stores, Corporate Purchasing, and Customer Care
• responsible for miscellaneous sales tax projects assigned

In Publix's corporate offices, we value in-person interactions, similar to those our store associates have with customers. Many of Publix's corporate offices offer work from home up to two days a week. Each business area implements their policy differently and should be discussed during interviews.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or another analytical discipline or its equivalent
• 4 years relevant business experience
• basic knowledge of SAP & Financial modules
• knowledge of Sales Tax Systems or similar systems
• intermediate knowledge of CCH AnswerConnect or similar search engines
• knowledge of Microsoft analyzer
• ability to plan and organize projects to meet deadlines
• ability to maintain confidentiality
• excellent oral and written communication skills
• strong analytical and detailed oriented
• attention to detail, accuracy and thoroughness
• problem-solving and research skills
• knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's Degree in Accounting with emphasis in Tax or MBA with concentration in Accounting or Finance or 8 years relevant business experience

• Certified Credits & Incentives Professional (CCIP)

• Knowledge of federal, state, and local tax incentive programs

• Knowledge of tax research techniques and tax research software

• Knowledge of tax incentive firms and their offerings

• Ability to comprehend and interpret tax law

• Intermediate SAP HR & Financial module knowledge
