The State Tax Commission is recruiting for a Tax Auditor 1 to serve as an underfill for Tax Auditor 2, in the Audit Division's Tax Discovery Bureau on Chinden Blvd in Boise.

Tax Auditor 1 positions are characterized by the inclusion of work that is analytical, creative, evaluative and advisory in nature. The work draws upon and requires a thorough knowledge of the fundamental doctrines, theories, principles and terminology of accountancy (GAAP). Incumbents use their professional background to prepare, analyze and/or audit financial records and documents, accounting systems, financial statements, work papers, budgets, tax and payroll records and other related documents. Generally, incumbents prepare reports of findings, conclusions or recommendations.

Upon an employee's successful completion of approximately 12 months of training, the employee will be eligible for promotion to a Tax Auditor 2 with a starting rate of $21.28/hour.

Example of Duties

  • Review tax returns and identify possible compliance issues

  • Identify needed records and request documentation to verify the return's correctness

  • Research and analyze data for accuracy to ensure compliance with State tax laws and regulations

  • Prepare audit reports of findings, conclusions or recommendations and summaries

  • Identify legal issues and apply appropriate statutes, rules and legal precedents

  • Participate in team audits

Minimum Qualifications

Good knowledge of accounting principles and practices*

All candidates being considered for employment with the Tax Commission must successfully complete a comprehensive background check, including fingerprinting, before a final job offer will be given. Individuals must be a current tax filer and be in full compliance with their tax obligations to be an employee of the Idaho State Tax Commission.
