  • Support indirect tax team in a variety of areas including sales and use tax, property tax, fuel tax, business licenses and registrations, and unclaimed property

  • Responsible for the preparation, filing, and payment of indirect tax compliance

  • Analyze and prepare monthly general ledger tax reconciliations: sales and use tax accruals, prepaid, and monthly taxes remitted.

  • Conduct research and provide advice to internal and external stakeholders on a variety of indirect tax matters

  • Gather information and respond to document requests from taxing authorities

  • High School Diploma or GED is required

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting (or equivalent work experience), preferred.

Related Experience/Requirements:

  • Minimum of two years of indirect tax experience or related accounting experience.

  • Prior experience researching, interpreting, developing, and implementing transaction tax processes in a large multi-state industry environment preferred.

  • Past General Ledger reconciliation and analytical experience also preferred.


  • Driven, with a strong desire to learn

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines

  • Detail oriented with strong organizational and documentation skills

  • Intermediate or greater skills in Microsoft Excel preferred (Vlookups, Subtotaling, PivotTables, etc.)

  • Proficiency in tax research tools

YourOpportunity As a Payroll Analyst you will be a member of the Financial Services team and will report directly to the Director of the U.S. Payroll. This position will sit in our new Chandler, AZ office and be responsible for overseeing payroll tax responsibilities, responding to tax agencies, performing required audits, reconciling tax related reports, and providing tax guidance and training to Payroll staff. Your Key Responsibilities * Strong knowledge of payroll processes includingfederal, state, and local regulations as well as employmentlegislation. * Review and coordinate the resolution of allpayroll tax notices from various agencies (federal, state, and localjurisdictions). * Complete and submit tax returns not processedby payroll tax vendor accurately and timely. * Lead and coordinate yearend, balancing wages,and timely processing for accurate W2s. * Register for state and local tax IDs * Communicate directly with tax agencies and taxprovider, ADP, regarding tax inquiries. * Work with acquisition team on assessing specialtax implications such as reconciling pre-acquired balances and W2 implications. * Documentation and maintenance of new processes. * The ability to test all forms of data and troubleshootany inconsistences that require resolution. * The ability to audit, validate, analyze datafrom gross to net and ensure compliance has been achieved. * Analyze and audit records to ensure complianceto employment legislation. * Communicate information and ideas clearly toindividuals and groups. Prepare correspondence. * Create ad-hoc reporting pertaining to Payrollsystem data; provide analysis of data, giving guidance and recommendation forupdates and/or changes in policies and processes. * Leads and organizes payroll tax projects as necessary. * Ensure all tax related updates are fully testedand implemented in the payroll system. * Ensure the customer perspective is a drivingforce behind decision and activities. Provide information to employees on payrollrelated matters. Act as the point of contact for the department while providingexcellent customer service. * Uses measurement methods to monitor progresstoward goals. * Participate as a member of a team to move theteam toward the completion of goals. Contribute to the efficient and effectivedelivery of projects and initiatives. Your Capabilities and Credentials * Knowledge of both United States and Canada legislation anasset. * Minimum3–5years'experienceofOracleEBSPayroll,OracleHRMS,andOracleTimeandLaboraplus. * Extensive working knowledge of payroll and financial informationsystems. * Experience with various report writingtools. * Ability to analyze data and provide recommendedsolutions. * Highly proficient with MS Office products including advancedExcel. * Excellent verbal written communicationskills. * Able to represent the payroll department in a professional and positive manner at all employee levels within Stantec,with newly acquired companies, and with industry peers andclients. * Liaison to field, internal personnel, and interdepartmental staff to resolve escalated payroll issues andinquiries. Education and Experience APA Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation preferred. 3–5 years of payroll experience with emphasis on payroll tax for large scale company's. Knowledge of all aspects of a full cycle payroll is required. Strong knowledge of multi-state taxation and legislation. Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
