The Tax Analyst has a wide range of responsibility with respect to federal, state and local tax accounting, compliance and research focused on an Exelon business unit and its operating subsidiaries. The position reports directly to the business unit Tax Manager.


  • Assists with the computes and documenting (via work papers) income tax provision calculations for internal and external management reporting. The documentation includes the completion of Sarbanes Oxley controls and Fin 48 positions.

  • Assists in the preparation of work papers, schedules, tax returns, or other items related to tax returns or to tax payments necessary to comply with tax laws.

  • Assists in researching& concluding on various complex tax issues to determine the appropriate tax treatment and related tax reporting. Research includes assisting in preparing written memorandums.

  • Implements process improvements that promote risk management, streamline activities, and enhance transparency in tax work streams.

  • Assists in less complex controversy matters with governmental agencies including but not limited to the Internal Revenue Service, Illinois Department of Revenue, and Pennsylvania Department of Revenue. Activities include gathering data requests and formulating position statements with respect to identified controversies raised by tax authorities

  • Assists with investigations and helps gathers data to assist in responding to inquires regarding tax matters made by organizations within Exelon. For example, interaction with the Exelon Treasury Department is common to forecast cash flows related to income taxes.


  • Undergraduate Accounting or other financial discipline

  • Certified Public Accountant or other financial certification and/or advanced degree (JD or MST) preferred

  • 2 year or more years of tax experience

  • 40 hours of ongoing annual continuing professional education will be required of all professionals in the Department (at the Company's expense)

Maintains accounting and financial records and reports, including general ledger, financial statements, regulatory and management reports. Role Impact Individual Contributor Responsibilities The job provides professional support and solves straightforward problems related to accounting policies and controls, fiscal controls, preparing financial reports and safeguarding assets. Maintains accounting and financial records, including general ledger, financial statements, regulatory and management reports at the instruction of others. 1) Performs a variety of operating or cost accounting activities which require moderate knowledge of accounting theories and principles., 2) Interprets accounting records for the purpose of determining gains and losses, receipts and disbursements, and inventory., 3) Has a moderate/high level of authority in drafting income and balance sheet statements, consolidated statements, and various other accounting statements and reports., 4) Performs other related work as needed. Unit-Specific Responsibilities 1) The Tax Analyst will assist the Director of Tax Reporting in overseeing tax compliance for the University; under direct supervision, prepare and timely file 990 tax returns for the University and related organizations. 2) Prepare and timely file 990 tax returns and extensions; analyze and review unrelated business income and other reporting issues for the 990T and its attachments (926, 5471 and 8865). 3) Review K-1's and assist in preparation of 990T and related foreign filings. 4) Perform tax research and stay informed about changing tax laws affecting higher education. 5) Review and analyze unrelated business income calculations from campus departments. 6) Prepare unrelated business income work papers for various campus activities; prepare W-9 and other FATCA compliance forms. 7) Work closely with Financial Services staff on various accounting issues. 8) Other duties as assigned. Unit-Preferred Competencies 1) Knowledge of federal income tax related to higher education. 2) Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). 3) Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). 4) Experience with tax software such as ProSystem FX and C-TRAC. 5) Research tax issues for compliance with federal, state and local tax regulations. Education, Experience, and Certifications Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field. Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline. Preferred Qualifications Education 1) Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, with a concentration in Accounting. 2) Master of Science in Taxation (MST) or CPA.
