Basic Functions

  • Prepare and file various Federal, State, Provincial and Local tax returns.
  • Manage sales tax exemption certificate process. Research the taxability of transactions.
  • Prepare and file local jurisdictions' income tax returns/business privilege tax returns.
  • Assist with payroll and unemployment tax payments and filings as needed.
  • Analyze tax return payments to determine cause for outages and make recommendations to the Tax Director for corrections.
  • Respond to notices/letters from tax authorities.
  • Maintain tax calendar.
  • Assist Supervisor as needed.

Typical Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting. Master's degree in accounting preferred.
  • 3-5 years of related experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe PDF.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • An extensive knowledge of tax accounting, the ability to research, interpret, analyze and apply tax law including the applicability of case law and related issues is required.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize filing returns.
  • Experience working with AS400 and JD Edwards Software is preferred.

Essential Functions

Prepare various Federal, State, Provincial and Local tax returns

Percent of time: 50% Frequency: As required by jurisdictions

Research tax payments to determine the cause of all outages and make recommendations to prevent or minimize any future outages.

Percent of time: 20% Frequency: Monthly

Research tax regulations and laws to determine needed changes to achieve and maintain compliance, including but not limited to required filings, rate changes, or taxability changes.

Percent of time: 20% Frequency: Monthly

Assist supervisor as requested

Percent of time: 10% Frequency: Occasional

Decision-Making

Templates have been established in place to streamline the processes of filing and paying taxes. Jurisdictions are extremely diversified. Strong attention to detail is required.

Supervision: Received- Given

Routine supervision, follow established work procedures and refer questionable conditions to supervisor. Make recommendations to supervisor for potential process changes. Plan and prioritize your own work with guidance on completion dates and question unusual situations.

Accuracy, Accountability and Control

Errors cause inaccuracies in legal filings and reports; ultimately, result in dissemination of inaccurate or incomplete information. Errors could result in significant financial losses and legal issues for the company.

Internal and external communication requires professionalism. Tact, judgment, and discretion must be always exercised.

Specialized Skill or Technical Knowledge

Intermediate knowledge of Excel and Adobe.

Experience working with AS400, and Oracle/JD Edwards is preferred.

Working Conditions

Hybrid: 4 days at the corporate office building, 1 day at home.

As requested by the supervisor.
