Overview

The Tax Accountant is primarily responsible for preparing property and use tax returns, assisting with various state and local examinations, and maintaining tax calendars and due date listings.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and files monthly, quarterly and annual use tax returns

  • Prepares and files property tax returns

  • Processes payments to the reporting jurisdictions

  • Assisting with various state and local tax examinations

  • Organizing and analyzing data using excel

  • Other miscellaneous filings throughout the tax year

  • Regular and reliable attendance required

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required.

Education/Experience:

Bachelor's degree with a minimum of (2) years of experience in Accounting. Public accounting and/or OneSource property tax software experience a plus.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, decimals and percentages.

Language Skills:

Ability to understand, read, write and speak English. Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations.

Ability to successfully write business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information, respond to questions and professionally interact with managers, employees, clients, vendors and the general public.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to recognize and define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions and correct errors. Ability to understand and interpret basic financial data. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in a variety of forms and deal with abstract and concrete variables.

Other Qualifications:

Ability to work independently with strong computer and spreadsheet skills. Must be able to handle multiple, simultaneous tasks effectively and efficiently while maintaining a professional, courteous manner.

Must be able to work well with others. Strong verbal and written communication skills required. Must be detail oriented and organized.

High integrity, including maintenance of confidential information. Must be able to exercise good judgment and positively influence and lead others, including handling confrontations with poise and efficiency. Based on business need, the ability to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends as approved in advance.

LBMC, PC is seeking a Staff Accountant in our Tax Services department to join our growing team of professionals in our Nashville Office. POSITION SUMMARY The Tax Staff Accountant is responsible for preparing complex business and individual returns, tax planning engagements, tax research projects and other tax consulting projects. PRIMARY DUTIES | RESPONSIBILITIES * Applying the knowledge obtained through previous work experience as a Tax Staff Accountant, completes work assignments given, including preparing individual and business tax returns, research projects, and consulting projects. * From personal knowledge or by research, readily prepare tax returns and resolve most tax questions. * Able to make decisions on ordinary tax return matters. * Set appointments with clients, interview clients, assemble information and prepare or arrange for the preparation of federal, state and local returns. * Maintains control on time and charges. Recommends billing to supervisor, manager, or partner-in-charge for tax clients. * Reviews and manages less difficult business and individual returns, tax planning engagements, tax research projects and other tax consulting projects. * Adheres to the contents of the firm's processes and procedures including knowledge of the firm's policy on privacy and the CPA-client confidentiality privilege under Internal Revenue Code section 7525. Knows and follows the rules, regulations, and the Code of Professional Conduct of the AICPA (including the Statements on Standards for Tax Services), Treasury Department Circular 230, the Tennessee Society of CPAs, and the Tennessee Board of Public Accountancy. * Continues to develop technical skills in accounting taxation and consulting as work experience increases and applies those skills to work performed for clients * Obtains an annual utilization budget of 1,800 chargeable hours. QUALIFICATIONS * Bachelor's degree plus completion of additional course hours necessary to be qualified to sit for the CPA exam or equivalent work experience. * 1-2 years previous experience as a Staff Accountant in Tax at a public accounting firm is preferred.
