NOTE: Annual salary adjustments may also occur, based on collective bargaining agreements.
An employee in this classification within the Treasurer's Office will:
Assist with the collection of delinquent personal property taxes including in person, by telephone and written communication
Prepare and process delinquent personal property payments, statements and distributions
Prepare the Industrial Facilities State of Michigan reports
Adjust the tax roll for changes by the Michigan Tax Tribunal, Board of Review, State Tax Commission and PRE changes, make sure that the tax roll is in balance
Answer questions both in person and over the phone
Wait on customers at the counter, take tax and water payments, balance a register, process mail tax payments, and balance batch payments
Be able to work at a fast pace, do online/fax approvals for banking, work on electronic fund transfers for tax payments
Maintain several excel worksheets for the department
Process refunds on overpayments of taxes
Be able to transition between different tasks
Balance the general ledger and tax database
Order supplies, maintain supply inventory
Prepare bid proposals for the department
Maintain the PRE Denial database
Help prepare the department's annual report
Research payments
Process accounts payables, purchase orders, payroll entry
Cross train to learn all functions of the Teller III, Teller II and Teller I positions
Perform related duties as assigned
By the closing date of this announcement, an applicant must:
Be a citizen of the United States, or a resident alien with the right to work in the United States; and
Have a high school diploma or GED; and
Have a minimum of three years of verifiable paid work experience within the past five years in the use of computer menus and entering of data into a computerized software program, use of Excel; and
Have a minimum of three years of verifiable paid work experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or banking including experience in customer service, using a calculator and other office machines OR have two years of college accounting/business courses with one year paid work experience; and
Have excellent customer service skills; and
Have knowledge of BS&A tax software, holding the distinction of CPFA or MiCPT with the Michigan Municipal Treasurers Association, municipal accounting experience preferred.
NOTE: Candidates are required to submit original high school diploma or GED certificate and/or original degree or official transcripts at the time of interview.

NOTE: A minimum of fifteen qualified applicants who have the highest passing combined score on the written and performance tests will be invited to the interview part of the examination.
NOTE: In the event three or fewer candidates pass the written and performance tests, the interview panel will be waived, and the parts of examination and weights will be 65% written test, and 35% performance test.
Applicants must pass the written, performance, and interview parts of examination in order to be placed on the eligible list.

Basic bookkeeping and general accounting in a computerized environment
Filing, indexing, and cross-referencing methods

Organize work and review input for completeness prior to computer entry
Prioritize work to meet departmental needs
Communicate effectively orally and in writing
Work cooperatively and maintain effective relationships with City personnel, the public and the business community

Be flexible and adapt to changing conditions
Work well in a computerized environment
Monitor compliance to rules and procedures
Utilize computers and computer software to perform word processing, spreadsheet and specialized functions
Maintain accurate records according to strict departmental procedure
Accurately make change and issue receipts
NOTE: At the time of appointment, applicants are required to pass a pre-employment medical examination conducted by a physician authorized by the City of Livonia.
