Centralia College is on a 30-acre campus of modern buildings set among walking paths, lawns, and native plantings just a few blocks from the heart of Centralia, Washington. The college has served students in the Lewis County region since 1925 and is the oldest continuously operating community college in Washington State. The city of Centralia is a historic railroad and river shipping hub with a vibrant downtown and railway station.

As a comprehensive community college, Centralia College offers academic transfer and workforce programs, as well as adult basic education, English as a Second Language (ESL), and personal enrichment classes. The college also offers five Bachelor of Applied Science degrees.

In addition to the main campus in Centralia, Centralia College East in Morton is a smaller site that serves the needs of students in east Lewis County. Job Description

This is a federally funded, 11-month position. The continuance of this position is dependent upon grant funding. Under the guidance of the Director of TRIO TS, this position supports the daily operation of the TS program. The position requires the ability to manage a case load of approximately 250 low-income, disadvantaged secondary students; provide academic support services that motivate and prepare students for enrollment into a post-secondary education program; and to meet the grant¿s retention, secondary graduation and post-secondary enrollment and completion objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identify, select eligible program participants; conduct a comprehensive needs assessment and develop education plan; monitor progress and effectiveness of services

  • Secure appropriate documentation for participant eligibility and maintain accurate records;

  • Provide assistance to participants and parents in college reentry, academic and career planning and advising, goal setting, course planning, and financial aid, scholarship, and college admission information and application assistance;

  • Initiate, organize, and implement program workshops, activities, and field trips;

  • Conduct presentations/workshops at target schools for recruiting and informational purposes;

  • Disseminate program information and develop, coordinate, and maintain a positive working relationship with target schools, college campus, and community agencies;

  • Work with program participants individually, in classrooms, and in conference settings;

  • Ability to travel to target middle/high schools;

  • Ability to work independently, as well as within groups to meet program objectives and deliver required services to participants;

  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends;

  • Attend professional meetings, conferences, and workshops approved by the TRIO TS Director;

  • Perform duties assigned by the TRIO TS Director.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university;

  • Must possess a valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two or more years experience providing professional career and education planning/advising or teaching;

  • Experience working with socially, economically and educationally disadvantaged individuals;

  • Knowledge of financial aid resources and college application processes;

  • Demonstrated excellence in verbal and written communication skills;

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office computer software programs.

Conditions of Employment

This is an eleven (11) month per year federally grant funded, full-time professional/technical exempt position. The salary is $43,148.52 - $43,148.52 (DOQ/DOE) annually depending on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends. The state of Washington provides a comprehensive benefits package for state employees. The position may participate in the TIAA/CREF retirement system.

Compensation

Annual Salary: $43,148.52 - $43,148.52 (DOQ/DOE)
