What We Offer

This is an on-call position, which means it is a part-time, hourly role. This position will work no more than 39 hours per week and is not eligible for benefits. The pay rate for this position is $21.72. On‐call positions may have routine or variable work schedules.

Location

In this position you can expect to work on site at one or multiple Recreation Centers throughout the city of Denver.

What You'll Do

Denver Parks & Recreation's Active Older Adults (AOA) program engages adults ages 50+ in wellness, exercise, and leisure activities that support healthy aging. AOA programming includes aquatics, fitness, outdoor day trips, lunch trips, drop-in activities, clubs, arts & crafts, dance lessons and more! Active Older Adults is always looking for instructors to teach group classes related to wellness activities such as meditation, Tai-Chi, Mindfulness and Qi-Gong. Instructors demonstrate proper techniques and methods for participants and observe participants to ensure appropriate, safe, and fun enrichment. This position provides the opportunity to obtain part-time work making a positive impact on the lives of Denver's active older adults, while staying fit and taking part in the fun!

Right now, we are specifically looking for Tai Chi Instructors who are interested in substituting for current classes and/or helping us expand to more locations throughout the city.

These classes primarily take place in the morning, however, other shifts are available based on recreation center need and instructor availability.

Specifically, as a Tai Chi Instructor you will:

  • Provide one-on-one personal training (certified) and instruction (certified) in group fitness classes such as Tai Chi, fall prevention classes, meditation, mindfulness-based stress reduction, and more

  • Demonstrate proper techniques and methods for participants. Observe participants and inform them of corrective measures

  • Instruct a variety of fitness classes in formats such as: Tai Chi, fall prevention classes, meditation, mindfulness-based stress reduction, and more

  • Create enthusiastic and energetic class environments while providing specific emphasis on safety and proper execution of movements

  • Keep current on all certifications and industry practices

  • Maintain attendance records for classes; distribute and collect class evaluations as requested

  • Answer participant questions and resolve issues, problems, and conflicts

  • Maintain a clean and safe orderly work area

  • May complete lesson plans, incident report forms, time sheets, registration cards, and collect fees, where applicable

  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested

About You

What You'll Bring

We are looking for knowledgeable and enthusiastic health and wellness instructors who can provide engaging programming, with an eye for safety and fun!

Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:

  • Certification as an instructor and/or trainer in Tai-Chi, Qi Gong, Fall Prevention, Meditation, Mindfulness or other health and wellness related program by a nationally recognized organization (such as ATCQA, MBSR, etc.)

  • Current CPR/First Aid Certification

  • Experience instructing health, wellness and/or fitness classes

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Education Requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate

  • Experience Requirement: None

  • Education/Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for the minimum education requirements

  • Licensure/Certification: Certification as an instructor and/or trainer in yoga, step aerobics, kick boxing, boot camp, hip-hop, interval training, sports performance, strength training, Pilates, Zumba, indoor cycling, core conditioning or any fitness area by a nationally recognized organization. Requires certification in CPR/First Aid at the time of application or within six months hire date. Licensure and certification must be kept current as a condition of employment

NOTE: Applicants must include an attached PDF copy of their current certification in Tai Chi, Qi-Gong, Mindfulness, or Yoga (or attached verifiable proof of attainment such as confirmation email from institute) in order to be considered for the position.
