Job Summary

Perform operational checks, service, handle and repair support equipment. Have a full knowledge of fuel systems, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, mechanical systems, gas and diesel internal combustion engines on ground support equipment. Must be familiar with aircraft and ground safety procedures. Deliver and pick up support equipment from AIMD or other designated local repair facility.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Performs Perform operational checks, service, handle and repair support equipment.

  • Have a full knowledge of fuel systems, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, mechanical systems, gas and diesel internal combustion engines on ground support equipment.

  • Must be familiar with aircraft and ground safety procedures.

  • Deliver and pick up support equipment from AIMD or other designated local repair facility

  • Performs Daily and Preventative Maintenance inspections on support equipment.

  • Uses publications to inspect, test, troubleshoot, repair and overhaul support equipment and respective systems.

  • Checks out and turns in support equipment as required.

  • Performs Scheduled/Unscheduled maintenance on Company owned SE as required.

  • Completes applicable maintenance forms including NALCOMIS OOMA.

  • Identifies and treats corrosion.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

  • Deliver and pick up calibration gear from AIMD.

  • Coordinates with the customer, the O.E.M., management and work centers regarding the repair and / or modification of SE equipment.

  • Maintains cleanliness of the work center.

  • Complies with Foreign Object Damage (FOD), Hazardous Waste, Egress Familiarization, and Tool Control programs.

  • Complies with all established general and industrial safety rules and regulations as applicable to the contract, facility and job assignment.

  • Ensures safety, security and preservation of government and company owned equipment.

  • Deals with the customer in courteous, professional and effective manner.

  • Furnishes own hand tools.

  • Operates portable firefighting equipment.

  • Performs duties of a Tool and Parts Controller as required.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Possess a thorough knowledge of ground support equipment to include their systems and operation.

  • Must have a working knowledge of aircraft and ground safety procedures, applicable maintenance / technical manuals, basic tools, special tools and test equipment.

  • Must be familiar with aircraft support equipment, tools, drawings, schematics and normal safety requirements.

  • Must have knowledge of corrosion detection, prevention and treatment.

Experience & Education

  • HS Diploma or equivalent

  • Satisfactory completion of U.S. Armed Forces ground support maintenance / repair courses or equivalent or three (3) years of on the job training and / or experience required.

  • Must be able to meet Government / Company licensing / qualification requirements for the position.

  • Must have a minimum of eighteen (18) months experience in an aircraft or ground support maintenance occupational field.

  • Must be familiar with aircraft support equipment, tools, drawings, schematics and normal safety requirements.

Physical Requirements/Working Environment

  • Climbing, standing, stooping, bending, stretching and working in uncomfortable positions.

  • Required lifting up to 50 lbs.

  • The diversity of working conditions may range from a standard shop type environment, where there in no physical discomfort, to an environment where inclement weather may subject individual to severe changes in temperature, wind, rain etc.

  • May be required to work in areas where high noise hazards prevail.

  • Will be required to wear protective clothing and other safety equipment.

  • Will be required to work with hazardous materials.

An incumbent is oriented and trained by assisting a journey-level Lift Station Mechanic. Each two person team receives day-to-day work assignments and performance monitoring from a Lead Lift Station Mechanic. Overall work planning, control, and evaluation of job performance are the responsibility of the Lift Station Mechanic Supervisor. Mechanic Trainees perform semi-skilled and skilled work of average and standard difficulty in the installation, maintenance and repair of lift station mechanical equipment and property. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Assists in performing daily inspections, maintenance, cleaning, and repair of lift stations, sewage grit removal equipment, sewage grinding equipment, sewage screening equipment, including pulling and replacing pumps, repairing and replacing pipe, valves, and fittings and the operation and maintenance of lift stations and the associated properties. Assists in performing basic troubleshooting of pumps treatment/process equipment at a lift station to identify and correct the problem. Keeps his/her assigned Lift Station Mechanic informed of needed repairs and maintenance. Connects and operates portable pumps and generators. Maintains lift station properties with lawn maintenance equipment. Cleans sewage spills and applies chemicals as required per federal, state, and local laws to sewage spills. Responds to emergency and trouble calls, locates and identifies the cause and performs corrective actions as required. Completes all assigned duties in an efficient and timely manner. Operates light and heavy duty trucks, boom trucks, heavy lifting equipment, and portable pumping equipment. Operates power generation equipment, lawn maintenance equipment and various tools as required. Maintains and is responsible for his/her assigned equipment and tools to be kept in proper working order at all times. May independently perform maintenance and repair work of a routine nature. Ensures that frequently used parts and supplies are stocked on his/her assigned truck so that all parts needed for any given assignment are available and restocked as used. Works days, evenings, nights, weekends, and weather events as scheduled or needed. Performs the lift station lead mechanic duties on a temporary basis as assigned. All other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications:High school diploma or equivalent. Vocational or technical training is desirable. (Educational documentation will be required upon offer of employment.) One year of experience working in a mechanical field, preferably in the wastewater industry. The Lift Station Mechanic Trainee is required to work days, evenings, nights, and weekends, and in any emergency weather event occurring during his/her shift schedule or as needed. Testing for reading comprehension and basic workplace math calculations, will be administered prior to an interview and/or job offer. Testing scores will be a contributing factor for selection. A good attendance record is vital in this position. Attendance records will be a contributing factor for selection. Licenses and Certifications: Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Florida driver license upon offer of employment. Within six (6) months of employment, promotion or transfer: Possession of or ability to obtain a "Class A" CDL driver's license. Skill in: Working in a group as a team, with hand and power tools, lawn equipment, basic electrical test equipment and performing maintenance and repair task efficiently and cost effectively. Ability to: Read and understand manuals, specifications, drawings, and follows oral and written instructions. Work as a member of a team with the ability to accomplish the task at hand efficiently and effectively while following all safety procedures, becoming increasingly knowledgeable and skillful in the field chosen.
