Berklee seeks a Systems & Networks Project Manager to lead and facilitate the planning, management, communication and execution of multiple related projects that are directed toward realizing strategic, business, or technical objectives. Project management activities revolve around managing issues at the intersection of multiple project-related activities and the work of multiple technical and customer teams.

The work of the Systems & Network team bridges across multiple campuses and legacy technical architectures. Our work to improve the quality and efficiency of implemented systems and services provides great leverage to the College across its global footprint.

The Systems & Networks Project Manager is responsible for project management, implementation, and completion of projects ensuring consistency with technical and customer outcomes. The ideal candidate will have experience with systems integrations and troubleshooting complex issues, either as a technologist or as a project manager, and will have experience managing network, systems, infrastructure, and application implementations in heterogeneous technology environments that span on-premises, co-located, hosted, and cloud architectures. The successful candidate will be able to skillfully facilitate communication on complex business and technical processes within a technical team, have clear, concise oral skills, and have the patience and interpersonal skills to coach, train and mentor technical colleagues in the use of project management and business analysis best practices, ensuring proper use of Project Life-cycle, Systems Development life-cycle, documentation, change control, and customer communication.

The Systems & Networks Project Manager will be a member of the Systems & Networks management team and will report to the Senior Director for Systems & Networks. The chosen candidate must be comfortable with team leadership in a matrix reporting environment and have experience with successful technology implementation and integration projects.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Systems & Networks Project Manager will:

  • Directly manage multiple strategic and tactical projects; including project leadership, status reporting, resource planning, detailed project plans and scheduling, client communication, asset coordination, internal team management, deliverables review and presentation, launch coordination, stakeholder conflict, and ongoing client relationship management.

  • Work with project leadership to assess project requests, prioritize and determine impact to the project portfolio; adjust portfolio to maximize resource availability.

  • Function as a technical business analyst, serving as a liaison between Berklee's technical teams and customer areas to assess and develop requirements for standard end-user, business, and service needs and procedures.

  • Maintain a high level of communication with internal and external teams; providing clear, tactful, and complete directives, realistic deliverable deadlines and prompt feedback.

  • Ensure appropriate technical team change control and project documentation procedures are followed and will coordinate handoffs to both technology support and monitoring teams, and business unit customers.

  • Work side-by-side with project and departmental team members in a hands-on capacity in order to ensure that all deliverables meet client expectations.

  • Maintain thorough understanding of Enterprise Architecture and the critical interplay of enabling technology infrastructure projects toward the realization of strategic, business and technical goals.

  • Work with the Project Management and Business Analysis team to align Systems & Networks with the Technology Resources project management methodology and practice standards, as well as prioritization and governance of projects.

Required Skills

  • Ability to create and maintain effective project plans and requirements and project milestone documents using one or more available project management toolsets.

  • Possess and demonstrate the ability to solicit and gather technical details and requirements contributing to the clarity and definition required to establish project milestones, tasks, and goals.

  • Ability to clearly summarize and communicate in English moderately complex information in both verbal and written formats to internal and external customers.

  • Ability to comprehend and communicate complex verbal information in English to colleagues and other internal and external customers and business partners.

  • Ability to lead collaborative teams for larger projects or groups both internal and external to the Berklee and across functional areas.

  • Ability to provide effective meeting facilitation; including a review of ongoing and resolved performance risks, issues, action plans and incident tracking.

  • Maintain a constructive, team-oriented and customer-focused attitude at all times and in all settings.

  • Ability to work independently and creatively, learn quickly, and solve complex problems in high-pressure situations.

  • Ability to influence, train, mentor, and leverage the skills of others, including business partners and technical team members.

Required Experience

  • 4-6 years experience effectively managing projects and/or services in support of business functions, as either a lead technologist or as a project manager for technical infrastructure implementations.

  • PMP, CSM, or CBAP, ITIL or other technical certifications preferred but not required.

  • Experience with some project management methodology (waterfall, lean, agile, etc).

  • Experienced in network and systems implementations, and have an awareness of network and systems architecture and troubleshooting.

  • Ability to operate independently and set priorities amongst multiple task assignments.

  • Equally comfortable with detailed analysis and research as with "big picture" considerations and priorities.

  • Relevant business process analysis and project management training and experience.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, assignments, and projects.

We fundamentally believe that schools are the unit of change where our school leadership teams and educators create rigorous, supportive, and safe environments for every child to reach their full potential. Our work as a district is to ensure this is possible at every one of our schools. Position Overview: The Academic Superintendent of Elementary Learning Networks (ASEL) will design and lead a professional learning community of ~50 preK-8 schools to be innovative, high performing learning environments that provide the highest quality learning opportunities for every child. With the support of five Lead Principals (sitting experienced and accomplished principals taking on new leadership roles) who each lead a team of ~10 schools, the ASEL oversees and ensures the continuous improvement and development of all school leadership and instructional leadership teams to drive results for students. In partnership with Lead Principals and the ASSET team, the ASEL identifies, designs, and leads collaborative professional development opportunities across the learning networks. The ASEL leads the development and monitoring of each school's annual plan, identifying interventions or areas to augment learning. The ASEL is the ultimate supervisor of these school leaders, either conducting the performance management or managing the Lead Principals who are responsible for the evaluations 1-5 other schools. The ASEL is ultimately responsible for outcomes in these ~50 schools. The ASEL is then responsible for coordinating the strategy, resources, and supports of the portfolio of elementary schools within the context of all elementary schools with the Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Schools. The Academic Superintendent of Elementary Learning Networks will lead Boston Public Schools to truly be an organization focused on providing differentiated service to schools, focused ongoing learning, and guided at all times with an equity agenda. Duties and responsibilities Leadership: * In collaboration with Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Schools, set the vision for school leadership in learning network elementary schools * Collaborate with BPS central office departments to design the process for the annual school planning and approval process (Quality School Plan - QSP): non-negotiables, school-based plans, autonomies, and standards/expectations for schools * Set the goals and expectations for school leaders performance, growth and development * Set the vision for school leader professional development * Set the vision and expectations for central office support to schools (tools, resources, and liaisons) with Department Heads * Set expectations and oversee Lead Principals * Build the next level of learning for school leaders at Boston Public Schools, designing the new support structure that will empower school leaders with the skills, tools, and conditions to thrive * Align the overall strategy for the portfolio of elementary schools to ensure college, career, and life success for all BPS students. Support: * Design the scope and sequence of school leader professional development (focus on tools, resources, peers) * Lead team of Lead Principals and central office leaders to implement learning network school leader professional development * Facilitate adult learning, enabling direct learning and collaborative opportunities for growth * Support schools in diagnosing needs, designing, and implementing annual QSP, including staffing, budget, and operational plan, ensuring that staffing, student-grouping plans, scheduling, and organizational structures are appropriate to meet desired student outcomes * Conduct quarterly school visits to monitor the fidelity of implementation of QSP plans (checking for quality of implementation, opportunities, etc.) * Monitor instructional leadership of school leaders with particular focus on instruction, supervision, intervention, and data-driven decision-making * Provide expertise and coaching if, when monitoring school performance, concerns arise * Provide differentiated expertise and coaching for new principals * Ensure and support communication with school communities, neighborhoods, and stakeholder engagement, working with the Office of Family and Student Engagement to assist in building partnerships with families and the community that support student learning * Act as primary liaison to learning network schools to advocate for and support BPS strategy and initiatives * Support school leaders in engaging with BPS families and community members Accountability: * Ensure innovative and effective instructional practices to improve student achievement for all subgroups * Hold schools accountable for school performance and student outcomes * Hold school leaders accountable for fidelity of QSP implementation * Ensure school leader effectiveness in meeting standards, goals, and implementing plan * Hold school leaders accountable for supervision and evaluation of staff * Hold Lead Principals accountable for designing and executive effective collaborative learning opportunities * Ensure that all schools in portfolio have professional development plans, coaching and feedback systems, and accountability systems aligned to building competency in the Essentials * Ensure that schools access resources on Essentials-aligned professional learning and coaching * Ensure that each school has 80% of teachers competent in an Essential each year, as measured by CLASS and CRIOP tools Skills and competencies: * Knowledge of rigorous, standards-based instruction looks for all students and how to lead school leaders and teachers to design schools that make that possible. * Experience with urban schools that demonstrates a track record of successfully leading transformational change for students. * Ability to interpret and make meaning of qualitative and quantitative data. * Ability to know what progress on student looks like, and ability to diagnose and prescribe what to do when progress is not present. * Belief in the ability of adults and students to improve. * Ability to hold school leaders accountable for delivering results for students. * Ability to manage time and competing priorities effectively to prioritize personal work and work across schools and learning networks. * Ability to navigate systems, build positive relationships with ease, and inspire school teams to build a vision and deliver on it. * Have experience and believe in engaging stakeholders in schools, ready to support school leaders and teams in building their school communities to support this work. * Lead by example and represent schools, self, and Boston Public Schools. Qualifications-Required: * Considerable experience as a principal that includes a demonstrated track record of rapid student growth in a diverse, urban setting * Track record of holding educators or teams of educators accountable for results * Expertise and deep knowledge in urban school leadership, school improvement strategies, and district improvement strategies * Record of success in managing people and teams, coaching leaders to improve and excel, and building a positive and collaborative adult culture. * Ability to constantly evaluate the needs of schools and provide leadership and recommendations of ways to best modify existing systems to meet changing needs of a growing organization * Valid certification for Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent or eligible to obtain one within first year of employment * Master's degree from an accredited college or university with coursework in educational administration, education, and curriculum development * Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment Qualifications-Preferred: * Experience as a supervisor of school leaders strongly preferred * Experience as a leader in a Central Office Terms: Managerial, Tier E, 12 months.
