Applied Technology is seeking a highly talented and technically strong individual to fulfill a Technical Lead / Systems Engineering role.
In this technical position, the role will have unique and varied responsibilities. We are looking for engineers with diverse knowledge and a wide variety of interests covering hardware and software design and testing.
You will be responsible for interfacing with customer, understanding the user's needs, concerns, and objectives, and translating that into defining requirements, design, implementation, and testing of complex embedded systems using a state-of-the-art small form factor Software Defined Radio platform across multiple projects and contracts.
Development tasks may include radio software applications, cyber security, RF front-end hardware, or new antenna and antenna array solutions.
Engage with customers to understand their needs, priorities, and how they operate
Voice the customers' interests in design decisions and direction to the engineering team
Responsible for authoring and maintaining system requirements, test plans and procedures, test reports, high level architecture, design, and other documentation
Engage functional area engineers (FPGA, DSP, RF, SW, UI/UX, Mechanical, Electrical) to provide detailed contributions to documentation
Support full product development life-cycle: architecture, design, bring-up, integration of initial HW/SW, factory support, test & validation, and customer support
Works with project lead to define long-term system roadmap and objectives
Responsible for executing system tests, identifying issues, and prioritizing remediation work
Administer and maintain Linux based automated software builds and regression testing using Jenkins
Design and construct test harnesses for testing and simulation of complex radio systems
Lead engineer for field testing and acceptance testing of project
Research to seek out, prototype, and advocate for inclusion of new technologies into products
Promote cross-project development and inclusion of new concepts
15-20% travel for meetings with customers and field testing products
Diverse background and experience covering multiple areas including RF, signal processing, embedded software, FPGA, analog, digital, or user interface.
Technical expert in at least one functional domain (RF, Digital Signal Processing, FPGA, Embedded Software, User Interface, Mechanical, Electrical)
Ability to manage multiple diverse projects simultaneously
Knowledge of lab equipment such as signal analyzers, signal generators, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, soldering stations, etc.
Firm understanding of physical and transport layers of one or more conventional and trunked digital push-to-talk radio protocols (dPMR, DMR, TETRA, P25, NXDN)
Understanding or willingness to learn the signal processing behind digital radio communications
Understanding of python, shell scripting, C/C++
Familiarity with GIT version control software
