As a Systems Engineer at Advicent, you will install, configure, and maintain an enterprise-class IT infrastructure. You will manage, upgrade, and provide technical support for all enterprise computing and networking environments in hosted and local data centers, as well as, cloud environments.

Duties

  • Deployment, configuration and administration of a wide range of systems including: Active Directory, Windows Server 2012R2 / 2016 / 2019, Hyper-V and Failover Clustering, Office 365, Azure, AWS, IIS, file and print services, Cisco Switches, Cisco ASAs, F5 Traffic Managers, flash storage and other corporate systems.

  • Configuration and administration of Office 365 products and Azure cloud services.

  • Analyze, diagnose and troubleshoot problems, while managing open issues to ensure business expectations are met.

  • Responsible for the availability, security, compliance, backup, and performance of our on premise and cloud IT environments.

  • Work with 3rd party consultants and vendors to efficiently complete Infrastructure projects and resolve issues.

  • Define and follow established processes, including access administration, change and incident management.

  • Work with business unit teams to define, deploy, and support client-specific solutions.

  • Continually learn new and existing systems while cross-training others, along with creating and maintaining problem resolution and system configuration documentation.

  • Provide off-hours support as needed and on-call services (periodic schedule), to support product updates, equipment upgrades, and address technical issues.

  • Maintain 99.9% availability of production platform systems and hosted web applications.

  • Occasional domestic and international travel required, less than 5 percent of the time.

  • Assist the security team in maintaining and improving the security posture of the organization

Skills/Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology or Computer Science plus at least 3 years of systems administration/implementation experience or equivalent combination of education and technical experience.

  • Advanced experience with:

  • Server hardware/software installations, upgrades and migrations: primarily Windows server 2012 / 2016 / 2019

  • Deploying and maintaining Microsoft Hyper-V clusters, Windows Failover Clusters and virtual servers

  • Experience with:

  • Administration and configuration of Cisco switches, routers, and firewalls

  • Office 365 licensing, administration, and security.

  • Office 365 products: Exchange, Teams, OneDrive, and SharePoint.

  • Azure: System administration, configuration and deployment

  • AWS: System administration, configuration and deployment

  • Active Directory administration, group policy and internal and external DNS, DHCP

  • PowerShell scripting

  • General knowledge of:

  • Telephony

  • Lync 2013/Skype for Business
  • Patch management
  • WSUS
  • Flash storage and iSCSI connectivity
  • Kaminario
  • Application load balancing F5 LTM and GTM technologies

  • Monitoring New Relic, Logic Monitor, Nagios, Uptrends, Sumologic, Tenable, and Dell OME

  • Backups and Archive

  • Veeam
  • Ability to work in a team environment.

With direction from IT management and using independent judgment and discretion, this position coordinates, implements and maintains the corporate server infrastructure, including Active Directory, Exchange, IIS, monitoring, software/hardware upgrades, data backups and disaster recovery. REPORTING STRUCTURE & WORK SETTING This position typically performs work at the central headquarters and normally reports to the Director of IT Operations or another leader with centralized information technology operational responsibility. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES NOTE: The essential duties and primary accountabilities below are intended to describe the general content of and requirements of this position and are not intended to be an exhaustive statement of duties. Incumbents may perform all or most of the primary accountabilities listed below. Specific tasks, responsibilities or competencies may be documented in the incumbent's performance objectives as outlined by the incumbent's immediate supervisor or manager. * This position assists with the design, implementation and maintenance activities for the Windows server environment, Exchange 2003 messaging infrastructure, Active Directory, patch management, system monitoring and 3rd tier support for local and remote sites. * Assists with project implementations, driving technical site escalations to conclusion and providing a leadership example to junior staff members. * Executes enterprise data backup solution and disaster recovery testing to ensure a recoverable server, application, web and email environment. * Performs system sizing, cost gathering, system purchasing, coordination of physical installation, OS installation and application configuration. * Monitors and maintains an enterprise virus, anti-SPAM and anti-spyware management solution. * Troubleshoots and resolves issues related to networking, DNS, WINS, DHCP, SMTP, web and application servers. * Ensures corporate messaging systems including Microsoft Exchange, OWA and Goodlink maintain high availability and functionality. * Implements and support WSUS, Group Policies, RIS and AD software deployment. * Migrates legacy applications to upgraded hardware platforms and operating systems. * Implements and administers SAN/NAS infrastructure. * Performs root cause analysis for service interruption recovery; create preventative measures and present to management. A MCSE and/or CCNA are preferred. WORK EXPERIENCE OR RELATED EXPERIENCE: * The knowledge, skill and ability to design, coordinate, implement and maintain the corporate server infrastructure as described as normally obtained through a minimum of 4 years progressively responsible, hands-on experience with Windows server platforms, including advanced knowledge of Active Directory and Exchange, enterprise storage and disaster recovery. In-depth experience managing an enterprise server infrastructure in a multi site, multi domain environment supporting Active Directory and Exchange including AD and Exchange consolidation, trust relationships, OU design and GPO administration is also required. * Experience guiding less experienced staff in technical projects as described above is preferred. This entails the ability to provide guidance on software systems design. SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: * Incumbents must have extensive working knowledge of systems programming and systems analysis methodologies, procedures, design and implementation. Good experience in research and analysis and implementation are essential. * A high level and in-depth knowledge of Windows server platforms, Active Directory and Exchange, enterprise storage and disaster recovery is required. Knowledge and ability with VMWare, Network Appliance, Citrix, SQL server administration, Cisco Call Manager are strongly preferred. * Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with associated deadlines is required. Good project management skills as well as written and verbal communication skills are necessary essential to effectively act in a technical lead role and serve as a reference and central point for technical issues across groups and business systems as described. * Strong technical skills and the ability to analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems as described above are required. Independent discretion and initiative is required to the extent that incumbents can perform work of a complex nature with minimal supervision. * Good communications and interpersonal skills are required to act as a reference and central point for technical issues across business units and product groups. The ability to interact effectively with team members and end users is required. A strong customer service orientation is essential. EQUIPMENT: * A high level of proficiency with business and communications software (preferably Word, Excel, PowerPoint, common Windows operating systems, and Outlook) is required. * A strong, hands-on technical knowledge and ability with Windows server platforms, Active Directory and Exchange are required. * A high level of skill in the latest areas of new technology and software systems development are required. Must be proficient in IBM based personal computer hardware, software operating systems, networking and telephony. TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS & CONDITIONS * Occasional overnight travel is required to provide oversight and assistance for off-site projects. Length and frequency of travel is determined by business needs. WORK ENVIRONMENT CONDITIONS & DEMANDS * Work is typically performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to unpleasant and/or hazardous working conditions. The nature of this job may include exposure to electricity and electronics equipment. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & DEMANDS Work requires normal range of hearing and eyesight. Incumbent must be able to use a telephone or headset equipment and operate a keyboard and other office equipment. The ability to perform work at a computer terminal for 6-8 hours a day and function in an environment with constant interruptions is required. At times, incumbents are subject to sitting for prolonged periods. Infrequently, incumbent must be able to lift and move material weighing up to 20 lbs. Incumbent may experience elevated levels of stress during periods of increased activity and with work entailing multiple deadlines.
