Building Systems Engineer

UnityPoint Health- Fort Dodge

FTE: 1.0 (Full Time Benefits, 40 hours per week)

Shifts: Monday-Friday 7:00a-3:30p; every 5th week/weekend and some holidays

Under the direction of the Building and Grounds Supervisor, this position requires knowledge of all the electro-mechanical systems of the hospital and its outbuildings. It also requires an expert knowledge in the areas of hardware application, networking, troubleshooting, programming and commissioning the hospitals building automation system. The incumbent must have knowledge of graphic programming language, ladder logic, and HVAC pro software applications. Knowledge of safety equipment to maintain these systems as well as safety equipment used in health care facilities. This incumbent will work from blueprints and use and maintain hand and power tools. The position requires that the incumbent follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for construction projects, corrective maintenance, and preventative maintenance.

Responsibilities

Installs, expands, troubleshoots, and maintains building automation systems, ensures data based generation of critical equipment records are up to date and recorded.

Has knowledge of graphic programming language, ladder logic and HVAC Pro software, in hospital building automation system.

Installs, maintains, and troubleshoots facilities building automation system either net. and N2 network.

Has a general knowledge of the operations and functions of the hospital addressable fire system.

Tests, repairs, and maintains the hospital fire and smoke dampers, and maintains all records of tests and repairs.

Shop and mechanical rooms are kept clean and free of unnecessary items.

The Maintenance Manager is to be informed on all projects so that appropriate communications can be maintained with other departments.

Additional training and/or self-development is required to maintain and update skills necessary to operate and repair current and new equipment.

Suggestions for improvement of equipment or management policies are to be made to the Building and Grounds Supervisor.

Logs and records are to be maintained in accordance to all SOP's.

Must be capable of self-evaluation to improve productivity.

Understands, observes, and complies with all safety precautions and procedures of the department and hospital.

Performs assigned duties during fire, internal, and external disasters, codes, and drills.

The position is also required to be on a on call rotation schedule and snow removal crew.

Qualifications

Education:

High school graduate or GED equivalent.

Associates or Bachelors degree in electronics preferred.

Experience:

Must have a general knowledge of all hospital electro-mechanical equipment and systems.

Must have the ability to read and understand blueprints.

Must maintain effective working relationships and communications with all hospital staff and general public.

Must have effective written and verbal skills.

License(s)/Certification(s):

Valid driver's license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Ability to operate all hospital electro-mechanical systems and associated repair equipment, power tools, and hand tools.

Must have an expert knowledge of building automation systems (BAS), graphic programming language, and database generation of critical records.

Must also have the ability to install, troubleshoot, and commission hospital BAS hardware and networking systems.

Ability to exercise sound judgement to matters which are urgent and confidential.

Must be able to cope effectively in stressful situations and time constraints.

Frequent contact with staff at all levels within the hospital.

Professional image and exceptional customer service attitude are essential.

Must be able to safely lift 75 points and safely climb, and work from a 12 foot ladder.
