Department 408 Sustainment Engineering is seeking a motivated individual to support execution of Sustainment initiatives for the COLUMBIA Class Program.
A Sustainment Engineer ensures that the ship design is maintainable, that the design will achieve Operational goals, and that the life cycle cost of the platform is minimized.
Sustainment Engineering influences the ship design as part of the Design-Build-Sustain (DBS) Process, in which design and engineering disciplines are supported by Operations personnel with shipyard construction experience, and by input from downstream maintenance stakeholders. Sustainment Engineers advocate for the needs of these maintenance stakeholders to ensure that the final design is maintainable by sailors and Navy shipyard employees.
The candidate will be exposed to a variety of submarine areas and systems throughout the entire boat. Individuals selected for this position will be responsible for development and execution of projects supporting current and future COLUMBIA Class design efforts, including:
Evaluation of ship systems and component designs for maintainability and reliability
Development of equipment lifting and handling procedures
Support of knowledge transfer as required during the development of logistics products
