This position will support and maintain network infrastructure and related computing environments including systems software, applications software, hardware and configurations.

Essential Functions:

  • Support the computing environment by evaluating network configurations, documenting changes and enforcing standards

  • Configure and implement new network equipment

  • Troubleshoot network tickets to completion as they arise

  • Maintain office port patching and vlans in accordance with security policies

  • Ensure that monitoring is kept up-to-date and the alerting is tested monthly

  • Generate network operational status reports including up-statistics

  • Work closely with the desktop team to assist with computer systems and phones as required

  • Participate in daily staff meetings

Non-Essential Functions:

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • A BA/BS degree required Computer Science and/or Engineering degree related to computer networking

  • Networking CCNA or related certification

  • An understanding of firewalls including routing, security policy, site to site VPNs, IDP, and antivirus.

  • Experience with network devices, switching and routing.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • A desire to grow and learn in all IT areas

  • Ability to achieve results without close supervision

  • Self-motivated with the ability to operate independently and also has the strong desire to work as a member of a team

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Travel may be required- up to 5% per calendar year

  • Flexibility with schedule and ability to work beyond regular business hours

  • In order to support a nearby office, a vehicle is required

Physical Requirements:

  • Involves work of a general office nature usually performed in a stationary position (E.G. sitting or standing) such as answering the phone, operation of a computer, and/or operation of a photocopier

  • Involves movement between departments to facilitate workflow

  • Must be able to lift and carry computer equipment 10-50lbs.

VIEW JOBS 4/19/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-07-18T00:00 Job Description An employee in this class is responsible for participating in the maintenance and repair of the City's traffic signals and traffic control systems. The employee follows directions, completes assignments to specific standards and assists Traffic Signal Tech II. Emphasis of the work is on providing manual labor and technical work as part of a traffic signal crew engaged in installation of new traffic signals, routine signal maintenance, and responding to signal malfunctions. Additional work includes conducting traffic counts on roadways or intersections and other related signal work. Work is performed under the guidance and direction of a senior traffic signals technician or traffic signal supervisor or engineer, but some routine work assignments may be completed without on-site supervision. Work is performed under the supervision of the Traffic Signal Supervisor and is evaluated through visual inspection and review of reports for compliance with instructions and adherence to safety rules and objectives. The employee also serves in a safety-sensitive occupation and is subject to work after hours "on-call" rotation as a primary contact for emergency response. This classification is considered non-exempt in compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Examples of Duties * Ensures traffic signals are installed and repaired according to NC Department of Transportation (NCDOT) standards * Assists Traffic Signal Technician II * Performs preventive maintenance on all signal equipment, vehicle detection devices, and other signal equipment; removes old equipment and install new signal equipment including overhead, pole, and ground mounted equipment * Performs signal-related work such as traffic counts, bench repairs, and cabinet preparation * Cleans signal shop and maintains adequate inventories of equipment and parts for services * Makes emergency and scheduled repairs to all traffic signal related equipment * Performs other related work as required Qualifications * General knowledge of the principals of operation and primary electrical details of cabinet wiring and components as well as the equipment, methods, and materials of signal system construction * General knowledge of the basics of traffic signal design and maintenance * General knowledge of electrical industry standards relating to signal construction * General knowledge of work zone safety and safety in working with electricity * General knowledge of municipal signal operations and familiar with the concepts and terminology associated with signalized traffic control devices and systems * General knowledge of work zone safety requirements * Skill in operating a bucket truck, hand tools, and other equipment used in signal maintenance * Ability to identify traffic signal problem areas and communicate needs to a supervisor * Ability to receive and carry out supervisory instructions Education and Experience High School Diploma or GED equivalency and some work experience in construction or electrical work, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Supplemental Information Physical Requirements and Working Conditions Work in this class is described as medium and frequently requires physical exertion to complete tasks and move objects. Work typically involves the ability to physically perform the basic life operational functions of kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pulling, lifting, fingering, talking, hearing and repetitive motions. This employee must have the visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of work assigned. The employee is subject to hazards including a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to heat, cold, vibration, oils and noise. Working conditions include both inside and outside environmental conditions.
