Systems Engineer

Overview

By Light is supporting the Managed Information Technology Service (MITS) Enterprise Support Managed Services effort for the United States Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM).

USTRANSCOM provides command and control (C2) for the synchronized transportation, distribution, and sustainment of personnel and assets, making possible the projection and maintenance of national power wherever needed with speed and agility, high efficiency, and a high level of trust and accuracy.

The MITS contract is intended to provide IT Service Management (ITSM) to USTRANSCOM for strategic, technical, and program management guidance and support services to facilitate the operations and modernization of the combatant command's infrastructure, systems, and applications.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical team that is responsible for installing, configuring, and maintaining operating system workstations and servers, including web servers, in support of business processing requirements.

• Develop system and sub-component technical requirements for validated operational requirements.

• Provide engineering support in solving information assurance-related technical problems.

• Comply with DoDI 8510.01, Risk Management Framework for DoD IT; DoDD 8570.01, Information Assurance Training, Certifications and Workforce Management; DoDD 8140.01 Cyberspace Workspace Management; DoDI 8320.07 Implementing the Sharing of Data, Information and IT Services in DoD; JCSE Technical Management Guide; and JCSE Instruction 10-13, Network Operations as they pertaining to the unit's systems/networks.

• Perform software installations and upgrades to operations system and software packages.

• Configure, administer and maintain Windows 2008/2012 servers, Active Directory 2008, Exchange 2010, Microsoft Terminal server and other Microsoft services including DNS, DHCP, File, and Print.

• Ensure operations and maintenance of SAN (Storage Area Network) technology, Dell blade server technology and backup server technology.

• Configure servers to provide required levels of access, reliability and availability.

• Ensure hosts, virtual machines, and the virtual center are compliant with all security and performance guidance and are properly maintained.

• Ensure creation and administration of virtual or physical test networks to include coordinating tasks with the team's SharePoint developers and engineers.

• Participate in technical exchange meetings, reviews and configuration/change management boards when requested by the Government. Document results of technical exchange meetings and configuration/change board meetings to define IT configuration items.

Required Experience/Qualifications

• At least 10 years' experience with Bachelor's degree; at least 7 years's experience with Master's degree

• Must have at least one of these IAT Level II certifications CCNA-Security, CySA+, GICSP, GSEC, Security+ CE, CND, SSCP

• Must have at least one Computing Environment (CE) certification or certificate for the technical area of responsibility for Operating System (e.g., Microsoft, Linux, Solaris, etc.)
