We have the unique and significant role to partner with NASA at Johnson Space Center (JSC), to be part of every human spaceflight program the International Space Station (ISS), NASA's Orion spacecraft, which will carry astronauts into deep space, and Gateway, the orbiting platform providing the home for astronauts to work and travel back and forth to the moon's surface, and serving as the platform for deep space exploration. From critical systems on the ISS to enable astronauts to live and work in space; to performing advanced development for systems leading to deep space exploration; to being part of the foundation for Gateway.

We also partner with NASA at JSC, the only NASA center in the United States to curate all astromaterial samples returned from exploration missions, to perform curation services, orbital debris analysis, and basic research to further humankind's understanding of the origins of our solar system.

We are currently in need of a Systems Engineer

  • Power and Battery Systems to join our team with MTS, a JETS teammate company. Do you have the following skills?

As a Systems Engineer

  • Power and Battery Systems you will:
  • Support engineering flight project schedule, procurement documentation, budget and system requirements documents.

  • Be responsible for the planning, development, review, and maintaining program requirements including Project Technical Requirements Specification (PTRS), Interface Control Documents (ICDs), Verification and Validation Document (V&VD), and Verification Success Criteria (VSC).

  • Develop and support sub-project requirement and verification data packages to support architecture requirements, design, verification/validation, operations, and sustaining engineering.

  • Conduct product life cycle reviews, coordinate integration, verification and validation activities.

  • Monitor submitted documents and attend design reviews

Work with requirements to align with hardware specifications while understanding the verifications.

  • Perform system engineering functions of projects and provide user input feedback during the design process.

  • Perform ground testing and flight operations testing of hardware with end item documentation.

  • Review verification and validation reports to verify compliance with requirements.

  • Participate and contribute to system requirements reviews, preliminary design reviews and critical design reviews.

  • Work and present schedule and progress to customers.

  • Must have good communication and organizational skills and the ability to work in a team environment.

  • Perform other duties as required.

Required Education/Experience/

  • BS degree in engineering from an accredited engineering school and a minimum of fourteen (14) years of direct engineering experience, or a MS degree from an accredited engineering school and twelve (12) years of direct engineering experience, or Ph.D. degrees and nine (9) years direct engineering experience.

  • At least 14 years of relevant experience in engineering or systems engineering.

  • Knowledge and understanding of SE.&I processes, methodologies, tools and technologies including model based systems engineering.

  • Knowledge of test principles, tools, and processes needed to develop test requirements.

  • Must be able to organize and prioritize tasks in order to meet deadlines and schedules with limited supervision.

  • Experience working in a team environment.

  • Ability to prepare written documents and to verbally present at various meetings.


  • Knowledge of power and battery systems design, test and operation.

  • Knowledge of Flight Hardware and/or Flight Processes/Paperwork.

  • Experience with NASA processes.

Work Environment

Generally an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.

Physical Requirements

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs (5% of time).

Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).


Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements when required.

VIEW JOBS 2/19/2020 12:00:00 AM 2020-05-19T00:00 The successful candidate will serve as an Electrical Power Systems Engineer that will handle all aspects of missile power systems to include primary and secondary battery systems, DC/DC convertors, power regulation systems, and switching circuits. This effort will involve the procurement, production and test of flight hardware along with developing the equipment and tools to support the effort leading to production of Hypersonic Glide Bodies (HGB).  The candidate will review HGB system documentation to assess battery system, power distribution circuitry, power switching circuitry and power regulation circuitry. The candidate will support production and test of flight hardware along with developing the equipment and tools to support the production process. The candidate will support/oversee development of test equipment and test processes as well as review of test results. Along with reviewing existing power system drawings and work instructions, the candidate will resolve data gaps and derive requirements while assisting with Technical Data Package documentation of HGB power system components.  In addition, the candidate will need to support equipment installation and testing during AI&T process, including troubleshooting and potential onsite repairs/rework.  The candidate will assist in preparation of RFP for component manufacturing, including parts management, quality, and documentation, and establishing test requirements along with providing supplier surveillance during manufacturing and testing to include Non-Compliance Reports and quality issues.  Work will be conducted in an integration/production facility along with a laboratory environment.<br /> <strong>Required:</strong> A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent field from an ABET accredited school is required. Candidate should have at least 10+ years of relevant experience.<br />  <br /> <strong>Desired</strong>: The ideal candidate would have experience in electronics/avionics/environmental testing. Experience with Li-Ion and thermal batteries. Knowledge of MIL-HDBK-704 along with methods of compliance and test. Organizational skills to document designs, assist with Technical Data Packages (TDP) and support production and test of HGB power system components.<br />  <br /> Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen. An active secret security clearance is required. This is a full-time position located in Huntsville, AL.
