Who we are looking for:

We are looking for an Systems Engineer Manager, Major Accounts who is the technical leader for all pre-sales system engineers within the region. In this leadership role you will be required to build, train and provide your team with the tools, training and guidance to be successful selling the Silver Peak SD-WAN and WAN optimization solutions. The Manager-System Engineers will be required to perform all of the same functions of an SE, including architecting, installation and support of the Silver Peak product in customer networks.

You will be based in a metro area in the Southern United States and travel will be 50% - 75%. You will report to the Director of Technical Sales.

What you will do (aka the Responsibilities):

Recruit and hire new pre-sales system engineers (SE) into sales territories

  • Train and mentor new system engineers to be experts in the Silver Peak product line

  • HR responsibility for 8-10 direct reports including management, training, expenses and reviews

  • Support the SE team through the evaluation of Silver Peak products, review architectures and mentoring through complex deployments

  • Act in a role as the senior technical advisor in your territory providing advanced sales support, product detail and roadmap when required

  • Manage and oversee the technical evaluation process for all open opportunities in your region

  • Provide hands-on technical product installation support to the SE, customers and partners

  • Provide direct SE support when the territory SE Is unavailable (time conflicts, PTO, backfill and newly created territories)

  • Travel to customers, partners and industry events to support the sale of Silver Peak products

  • Act as a point of escalation for pre and post sales technical issues

  • Consistently relay product feedback and requirements to the product management team

What you are great at (aka the Requirements):


  • Ability to demonstrate a working knowledge of networking protocols such as TCP/IP, UDP, NAT, PAT, IPSEC, VPN, VoIP, QoS,

  • Experience with VLANs and IP subnetting (IPV4 and IPV6)

  • Knowledge and experience using routing protocols such as OSPF and BGP

  • Recent experience using the CLI on major router and switch vendors (Cisco, Juniper)

  • Experience using and configuring enterprise firewalls

  • Troubleshooting skills that include hands-on experience with the configuration of networking equipment

Software Skills

  • Working knowledge of server hypervisors such as VMware, Hyper-V, KVM and Xen

  • Experience using cloud providers such as Amazon, Microsoft Azure and VMware vCloud Air

  • Microsoft Visio

  • Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Excel)

  • Microsoft Windows, Apple OS X, Linux Operating Systems

Personal Skills

  • Ability to present to an audience of mixed roles and technical abilities

  • Experience managing, hiring and training team members

  • Team player willing to jump in and help out direct reports, peers and other teams within the company

  • Comfortable presenting to a large group of people

  • Strong, effective communication skills (written and verbal)

  • Internal drive and positive attitude to go above and beyond whenever necessary to compete and win business

  • Ability to occasionally work nights and weekends around customer schedules

Your Education, Experience and Certification:

  • BS in CS or equivalent degree
  • 5+ years of experience as a pre-sales system/sales engineer
  • 3+ years of previous technical management experience
