The Systems Engineer understands the needs of the automotive customers and translates them into actionable requirements for the functional disciplines - e.g. electrical, mechanical, software etc. and validates that the end product meets what the customer expected. The Systems Engineer should be familiar with the S.I.M.I.L.A.R concept of systems engineering.
Work with customer at program initiation to understand the problem space in order to accurately State the problem, analyze the customer requirements and to enter them into the Magna application life cycle (ALM) tool. Investigates alternatives, Models the system - develops system models as appropriate in order to gain a clear and concise performance and functional perspective, Integrates sub- systems into a functioning product, Launches the system to ascertain product functionality and performance, Assess product performance and Re-evaluates designs, solutions and data to ensure conclusions
Develop the system requirements based upon and traced to the customer requirements for mechanical, electrical and software disciplines
Utilize the system architecture provided by the core team to verify that the system requirements are satisfied by the system architecture. Updates system architecture as necessary
Understand and document customer requirements using ALM tools. Manager and negotiate customer requirements, change requests, and unwritten expectations
Using Enterprise Architect (EA), documents system architecture in an unambiguous, clear, and understandable way that electrical, mechanical and software engineers know exactly what they have to do in order to meet customer expectations
Create and maintain project documentation
System requirements specification
System architecture definition tailored to the specific project
System test plan

Lead cross functional requirements reviews
Develop with the support of the customer the system level DFMEA for the product
Coordinate with manufacturing and software teams to develop interface requirements including EOL and module programming requirements

Mechanical/Electrical and hardware/software interface specifications

Perform systems testing of products on bench and in vehicles making sure the product functions and performs as the customer expects per requirements
Actively pursue cost saving ideas
Be aware of innovative solutions and propose patent applications
Perform work assignments as highly competent Systems Engineer, requiring independent system requirements development and testing of the system requirements
Work assignments primarily involve intermediate through advanced level work, moving toward complete technical competency and mastery of the field
Performs other duties as necessary in support of business objectives. Ensures that facilities are in full compliance with all safety regulations
Maintains regular attendance

Knowledge and Education
4-8 years' relevant experience regarding the Responsibility / Activities (listed above) for automotive electronics serial development projects (mandatory).
Experience with ALM tools (e.g. PTC Integrity, DOORS), simulation SW (e.g. Matlab SIMULINK), Enterprise Architect
Expertise in using CAN based tools such as CANalyzer, CANoe, CANape, neoVI, etc.
Experience with UML
Experience with Matlab/Simulink and Stateflow
Experience developing systems using Enterprise Architect (EA)
Experience in using a disciplined software development process based on ASPICE or CMMi process model
Skills and Competencies
Knowledge of product development engineering practices in automotive field

Profound technical knowledge of automotive electronics products. Familiar with typical automotive OEM requirements. Can anticipate customer requirements, even if not stated in customer documentation

Working knowledge of IS026262, hazard, SAE J2464, IEC, NEC, ISO 20G53, and two-level fault strategies
Working knowledge in structured engineering approach
Working knowledge in development of portable, reusable and modular software in automotive environment
Working knowledge of configuration management (preferably PTC/MKS), project monitoring and control techniques
Troubleshooting and debugging skills
Knowledge of structured problem solving (8D) methods and/or techniques
