We are looking for an engineer to be part of our Clinical Diagnostics Immunoassay Instrument R&D group in Chaska, MN. This is an exciting product development opportunity where the primary responsibility will be to perform the following Systems Engineering functions:

  • Collect appropriate data to define, identify, analyze, correct and prevent potential system failures

  • Develop test plans and conduct bench and system level testing that cover the expected customer use environment and operation conditions

  • Analyze system requirements and relationships with component specifications

  • Analyze, summarize, present, and interpret experimental data to formulate conclusions and make recommendations

  • Facilitate design FMEAs to drive system design quality

  • Acquire data from test subjects using sensors (e.g. temperature, vibration)

  • Conduct failure analysis of returned sub-assemblies and components.

  • Represent the Systems Engineering team on cross functional projects

  • Complete test reports

  • Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Biomedical, Reliability, or Systems Engineering - (BS and 2 years experience, MS and 0 years experience).

  • 1 years experience in systems engineering or related hardware engineering field; preferably from electrical-mechanical, robotic, or machine design background

  • 1 years experience with software controlled devices or systems

  • Hands on experience with either Mechanical or Electrical testing

  • Gathering and working with data using testing tools (e.g. LabView)

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (mainly Word, Excel)

  • Self-starter with a sense of urgency to resolve issues and complete tasks

  • Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Able to work independently and on cross-functional teams with development groups at other facilities as well as take work direction and follow procedures

  • Work effectively with team members to develop goals and plans, resolve problems, achieve goals, and coordinate efforts within and across departments

Description Our team is looking to add another smart engineer who can help us design and build the software for our next generation instruments. One really exciting aspect about the position is that this is a totally new product! Our team is responsible for a product that includes a UI, database, and machine control software, requiring you to know a lot of different technologies and concepts about the system. The team is using mostly Microsoft technologies (Visual Studio 2017, C#, WPF, SQL server, Windows 10) to develop the software. We work closely with other software development teams at our site and at other sites around the world which also work on the same system. As part of this team you also get to interact with a cross functional engineering teams including electrical, mechanical and system engineers. The final, and definitely the most important, part of the position is we work on a product where failure is not an option. People depend on our product to make life saving decisions so we put in the effort and discipline upfront so we can sleep every night knowing our customers, and ultimately patients, are getting a product you can trust your life with. * Develop software using technologies such as C# and .NET (this could include UI, business logic or motion control components based on development goals and experience) * Participate on an Agile scrum team * Participate in software code inspections where we collaborate to ensure designs and implementation meet our quality expectations * Produce high quality documentation to support the maintenance and review of the software to clearly communicate the quality of the product * Collaborate in the troubleshooting and determination of root cause of failures * Work both independently and as a team member * Participate in technical decisions affecting product modules and/or subsystems, including functional specifications and technical reviews * Analyze and write requirements to support the design * Be relentless in making our process and product better. We plan time to solve our systemic problems and expect team members to help expose them and find creative solutions.
