Beckman Coulter is hiring a Systems Engineer for development of the next generation of automated immunoassay test instruments and support of the current product line. This is an exciting and challenging opportunity to be a part of a rapidly growing industry working on the cutting edge of medical diagnostic technologies in a research and development environment.

The primary responsibility for this position is to work with a dedicated staff of engineers and scientists to design and develop complex immune diagnostic test systems with high reliability for use in hospitals and reference laboratories worldwide.

  • Assist in development of sample integrity features for process monitoring

  • Assist in development of machine vision and related testing

  • Use knowledge and skills to assist in creation of design requirements, characterization studies, risk assessments, verification or validation plans in order to achieve best in class products

  • Assist in script development for software testing

  • Perform system level testing and completion of test reports

  • Use statistical understanding to develop sound test plans with robust acceptance criteria for verifying and validating component, subsystem and system level designs

  • Use problem solving techniques to define, analyze, identify and correct system failures

  • Track and communicate project status, develop project schedules and timelines

  • Participate on cross-functional teams to ensure new designs and design changes meet or exceed customer expectations for quality, and are compliant with federal and international requirements

  • Biomedical Engineering or other engineering degree, Biochemistry, Biology or equivalent (Bachelor's with 2 years of relevant experience or Masters with 0 years of experience)

  • Relevant experience with Mechanical/Electrical/Software/Systems competencies in medical device, instrumentation, or similar electro-mechanical industry

  • Knowledge and experience with automated liquid handling, including optimization of fluidics.

  • Self-starter, works with a focused sense of urgency to resolve issues and complete projects

  • Experience with automated data collection and analysis using validated tools or macros

  • Knowledgeable with design and development in a regulated environment

  • Able to troubleshoot/analyze problems, and make corresponding recommendations

  • Work well with others, coordinate efforts with own and other departments

  • Excellent written and verbal interpersonal communication skills

Description: The Design Engineer II will be responsible for translating business needs into technical solutions across a variety of vascular device platforms. The engineering role performs assignments involving considerable responsibility including: design of medical devices and sub-assemblies, development of product specifications, analysis of engineering problems and demonstration of design compliance through verification and validation activities. The role requires close collaboration with Customers, Marketing, Management, Engineering, Regulatory, Design Assurance, and Operations, throughout the development cycle. Accountabilities & Responsibilities: Translation of user needs/design inputs into design requirements, part and assembly specifications Designing, prototyping and constructing innovative vascular access guidewires and related interventional devices Integrating and transferring both emerging and existing technologies and materials into guidewire technical capabilities Develops and documents test methods to evaluate product performance. Leverages ongoing development project technologies to transfer between and aligned efforts throughout the cardio and vascular division Reviews test procedures and plans prior to implementation, conducts failure analysis and inspection on products, processes and materials Independently evaluates, selects, and applies standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria, using judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications. Provides planning inputs and executes on project deliverables to meet established metrics. Generates, reviews and approves engineering change orders. Investigates root cause for product and process failures and establishes corrective actions. Authors technical documents including but not limited to: technical memorandums, design verifications/validations, input/output matrices, and product specifications. Assignments may begin as initial concepts based on user needs and evolve into "hands-on" prototyping to gain clinical design feedback. Adheres to Integer's Values and all safety, environmental, security and quality requirements including, but not limited to: Quality Management Systems (QMS), Safety, Environmental and Security Management Systems, U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, company policies and operating procedures, and other regulatory requirements Education & Experience: * Bachelor's degree in related Engineering field, experience in Materials Science a plus * Minimum 3 years of experience in design, delivery system experience preferred Knowledge & Skills: * Experience with design controls, FDA/ISO regulations. * Proficiency with mechanical CAD (SOLIDWORKS preferred). * Demonstrated design and prototyping capabilities including FMEA, tolerance analysis, design for manufacturability (DFM) and other methods * Demonstrated problem solving skills. Proficiency with root cause and statistical analysis tools. * Strong written and oral communication skills.
