Job Summary

Systems Engineer I in the IT support field is responsible for assisting in the managing, maintaining, and repairing computer systems. Knowledge to diagnose and fix defects, resolve connectivity issues, and deploying/configuring software and hardware are required. Systems Engineer I assists in interfacing with internal and external users by assessing problems identified in the ticketing system and determining the root problem of identified issues. Once the basic problem has been identified, the Systems Engineer I role is to work with higher level engineers to provide solutions. The Systems Engineer I role often deals with complex issues and must have the ability to assist other engineers to provide solutions. This position must have knowledge of how to use service desk tools to update tickets with detailed information. This position has the expectation that the necessary number of hours will be worked to complete tasks and resolve issues as they arise. This is an entry-level position and is expected to have the ability to troubleshoot complex problems in a timely fashion. The Systems Engineer I is expected to resolve 25%+ of issues before escalating the situation to a higher level. This position will have a focus in Network and Security Systems.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work with and assist engineering professionals to maintain hardware and software as necessary

  • Provide accurate timelines for assigned projects and is responsible for carrying projects to completion

  • Complete projects as assigned in a timely and efficient manner

  • Assist in identifying challenges and constraints within a project and help manage them accordingly

  • Work with higher level engineers to identify what is necessary to complete a project

  • Assist other department engineers in implementing proposed solutions

  • Assist other engineers in maintaining equipment and systems

  • Suggest and implement improvements to systems assigned by Management or higher level engineers

  • Ability and willingness to work the necessary number of hours to complete tasks and resolve issues

Primary Skills & Requirements:

  • Experience supporting and maintaining systems for a large corporation preferred

  • Demonstrated project development and leadership skills preferred

  • A degree Computer Science, Information Technology, Systems Management, or equivalent combination of experience, education, and training in related fields

  • 1+ year(s) in a technical and business environment

  • Experience with network switches, routers, and firewalls is required.

  • Experience with general security systems, i.e. Active Directory, Intrusion Prevention and Detection Systems (IPS/IDS), Encryption Systems, Security Logging, Network Share Permission, Web Security, and Windows and Linux OS Security, is as plus.

  • Knowledge of and ability to implement best practices related to standard systems security preferred

  • Professional work experience in team building preferred

  • Professional experience and an entry-level understanding of operating systems, hardware and infrastructure systems to include knowledge of infrastructure components (hardware and software), basic telephony, basic security, and networking preferred.

  • Experience with customer service

  • Ability to detect and handle advanced tech problems through problem-solving

  • Willingness to learn and the capacity to multitask

  • Have a keen eye for detail and the ability to follow through

  • In a fast-paced professional environment, the capacity to be flexible, multitask, and arrange goals while keeping a high degree of focus and precision is required

  • Competence and the capacity to manage confidential information are two qualities that are required

  • Demonstrated knowledge of software, hardware, and operating Systems

  • Basic understanding of Networks, Network Security, Cybersecurity, Call center technology preferred

  • Identify and promote process improvement.
