What You'll Do:

We are seeking a strong technical leader to help drive solution design and delivery within our Marketing & Distribution IT department and be a part of a high performing, collaborative team where every day is different. As a Systems Engineer in our organization, you will be responsible for all Agent/Producer Services and Applications, including CRM Dynamics, our Agent Portal, Wealth Management applications, data integrations between M&D applications, and Agency Vendor Solutions. This position will partner with directors, application developers and other engineers from IT to design solutions for tactical and strategic imperatives, provide recommendations for architecture improvement and ensure compliance with coding and security standards. The successful candidate would have the ability to assess and create solutions that support business objectives, have experience with SaaS solution and data integration implementations, and have the ability to communicate effectively at various levels of the organization. Other Duties include:

  • Provide technical leadership for projects and initiatives, including acting as IT Lead and managing the delivery of solutions that cross multiple applications.

  • Accountable for assigned production systems/applications and troubleshoot complex problems to ensure timely resolution. Analyze existing procedures and alternatives and design complex technical configurations.

  • Understand internal and external customer needs, as well as short and long-term business objectives, to deliver appropriate solutions. Develop and maintain mutually beneficial business relationships across the enterprise.

  • Perform architectural/engineering functions at many levels from developing strategic enterprise-wide artifacts to direct contributions to critical projects across the organization.

  • Lead extensive collaboration with peers to ensure that architecture and solution designs are rationalized and integrated across IT functions and business units.

  • Provide technical consultation to business partners and IT management to ensure development of efficient systems, including recommendations that outline advantages, objectives, and options for both technical and business problems.

  • Work with development teams to implement technical designs utilizing modern technical platforms and infrastructure.

  • Develop system and design documentation describing system requirements, operating environment, system and subsystem architecture, files and database design, input/output layouts, and external interfaces, among other things.

  • Participate in governance activities associated with ensuring compliance with established principles, security standards, patterns, assumptions and strategies, and the integrity of components.

  • Analyze financial services industry and technology trends to determine potential impacts to our business and proactively partner with application and infrastructure teams to create roadmaps which consider near term and long-term health of systems and technical currency. Recommend technology direction and/or adjustments to incorporate in business plans.

  • Responsible for ongoing mentoring, training, and education of technical staff within their domain, to ensure skillsets are appropriate for current and future technologies.

What It Takes to Join Our Team:

  • College degree (MIS preferred) or equivalent plus eight years of relevant experience required. Experience with an emphasis on software applications and system development, technical architecture, and standards preferred

  • Four years' experience in insurance or finance data processing preferred.

  • Experience in multiple data integration patterns (Messaging, Web Services, ETL, etc.) preferred

  • Experience implementing SaaS solutions preferred

  • Mastery of application development and technical best practices

  • Strong analytical/conceptual thinking skills, technical systems knowledge, and problem-solving skills are required.

  • Must have a good customer service orientation, impact and influence, industry awareness, initiative, integrity, people savvy, relationship management and self-confidence skills.

  • Must have or attain a strong understanding of all entities of the FBL Financial Group.

  • Must understand the inter-relationship between business and technology needs.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills targeting mixed technical and business-oriented audiences.

  • Consensus and team building are a must as well as broad decision making skills

  • Some travel required.
