TITLE: Systems Engineer

PRIMARY PURPOSE/ POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Infrastructure Services, the Systems Engineer will provide support in the design, implementation, installation, administration, maintenance, backup, and security of campus systems including, but not limited to, data centers, physical and virtual servers, storage, Microsoft Active Directory, cloud hosting services, and server-based software.
In collaboration with the Assistant Director, the Director of Technology Infrastructure and Support, and other stakeholders, the systems engineer will also investigate, recommend, and implement new technologies as they relate to the development of campus systems.
This position will require occasional off-hours work during scheduled maintenance windows or resolution of service disruption.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Research, design, install, and configure systems solutions
Engineer server, storage, and other shared infrastructure services for delivering mission critical technology services.
Coordinate migration of servers and services from on-premise to cloud-based environments.
Rackmount and connect physical servers, storage, or other systems hardware.
Play a key role in server application installation and lifecycle management.
Assist in the creation and administration of Azure Enterprise applications such as single sign-on for hosted applications.
Manage and maintain the University's systems infrastructure
Manage and maintain the University's server and storage virtualization environment.
Manage installation of operating system and application updates on servers
Manage the execution of the backup program, monitor backup progress, restore files or folders, and machines.
Manage and install digital certificates on various systems, services, and servers.
Accurately maintain inventory of physical and virtual servers.
Arrange and track service calls for systems hardware issues, identify and order replacement parts, and manage emergency repairs.
Manage local AD synchronization to Azure AD
Collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure effective and secure management, maintenance, automation, and integration of AD with other technology services and applications.
Play a key role in Information Security and Cybersecurity:
Participate in DU-IT's vulnerability management program.
Review, recommend and implement Microsoft 365 and Exchange Online security and mail flow policies.
Act as an escalation point to assist in investigating and securing compromised user accounts.
Participate in disaster recovery, and business continuity planning.
Participate in the support of endpoint security and management
Participate in the development, management, and deployment of endpoint images in collaboration with endpoint engineers.
Facilitate management and deployment of keys and licenses for software.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution required.
At least one year of end-user support experience.
At least three years of systems administration and data center operations experience.
Thorough understanding of operating systems, information security, and networking concepts.
Strong knowledge of on-premise or cloud-based virtualization of servers and storage
Proficient in the use of systems management tools (e.g. Hyper-V Manager, SCCM, Windows/Azure Active Directory, Microsoft 365 Admin Center, Exchange, Group Policy Manager, SQL Server, PowerShell, Veeam Backup and Replication)
Knowledge of common business collaboration tools, database, IT service management, and office productivity software.
Demonstrated ability to solve problems methodically and quickly including the ability to clearly and precisely present problems, alternative solutions, and the impact of solutions on client activities.
Ability to communicate and work effectively with stakeholders in all areas of the university.
Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in higher education environment strongly preferred.
Applicable technical certifications (e.g. Microsoft, CompTIA Server+/Security+, etc) preferred.
