Hughes has an opportunity for a Systems Engineer- Consumer Network Engineering.


  • Implement system improvements for HughesNet networks, focusing on system engineering, support, testing and data analytics/mining of satellite based networks.

  • Plan and execute infrastructure upgrade and migration activity and evaluate compatibility of programs with existing hardware/software features.

  • Test hardware and software platforms and provide feedback to development engineering.

  • Generate status reports, provide network anomaly analysis, work on system testing/changes/upgrades, perform maintenance, support, and troubleshooting.

Basic Requirements:

  • Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Telecommunications or closely related field and 6 months' experience in Systems Engineering, or Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Telecommunications or closely related field plus 5 years' experience in Systems Engineering.

  • Experience must include 6 months in each of the following: 1) TCP/IP; 2) LAN/WAN; 3) Switching and Routing Protocols; 4) Linux and Windows; 5) Satellite Communication Systems; 6) Networking Technologies; 7) Red Hat; 8) VMware; and 9) Knowledge of networking protocols.

VIEW JOBS 5/23/2020 12:00:00 AM 2020-08-21T00:00 Job Description: To design, engineer and field technical network application solutions to customers utilizing a combination of company and vendor manufactured equipment. This design will result in a system that meets the criteria of the customer specifications and meets the technical and policy requirements of the company. The position will support the design, development and field deployment of a Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Cherry Point Wireless Local Area Network being deployed to securely connect Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems throughout the MCAS Cherry Point facility in North Carolina. * Design, deploy and document large scale wired and wireless networks (including 802.11 wireless environments), supporting infrastructure and integration of network connected devices and solutions. * Conduct and document detailed wireless site surveys. * Troubleshoot network connectivity issues and outages in a wired (802.3) and wireless (802.11) TCP/IP network. * Identify and recommend mitigation strategies for network threats and risks. * Create and maintain configuration documentation for networks. * Identify when external resources are required to complete assigned tasks. * Lead and manage subcontractors on job sites as required. * Out of state travel may be required [35% minimum out of the year (100% reimbursed)] to support customer requirements. Required Skills: * CCNA or CCNP certification, or equivalent experience supporting Cisco and/or Juniper managed switches, routers, and/or firewalls. * OSHA 10-hour Construction and/or General Industry Safety training certificate * 2+ years of experience in designing, implementing, and administering network infrastructures for business solutions * 2+ years of experience in designing, installing, configuring, and troubleshooting network systems, with a good understanding of TCP/IP protocols and network routing/subnetting. * BS in Information Technology or Information Systems Management, or 8+ years directly related equivalent experience. * Ability to obtain a US DoD security clearance. Security clearances are granted to U.S. citizens. Desired Skills: * CWNA certification strongly desired. * BICSI training certification strongly desired. * OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety training certificate highly desired * Demonstrated ability to perform hands-on configuration, troubleshooting and maintenance of switches, routers, firewalls, servers and workstations. * Experience designing, documenting and the installation of large scale wireless networks and supporting infrastructure * Experience with supporting wireless infrastructure, including intrusion detection systems. * Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio. * Must be willing to work well in a team environment. * Excellent written and communication skills. * Willing to travel domestically and internationally. * Willing to work with minimal supervision. * Willingness to prioritize and display a sense of urgency based on actions required. * Willing to effectively communicate with employees, vendors and customers. * Proven ability to conduct accurate vendor analysis. * Willing to demonstrate sense of urgency and instill this in others. * Experience with virtualization (VMware, Virtual Box, KVM, etc) a plus. * Familiar with scripting languages a plus. * Familiar with Linux/Solaris or other Unix-based operating systems a plus. * Familiarity with MS Project a plus. * Knowledge of applicable DoD networking and security directives/instructions desired.
