The Brevard County Sheriff's Office is seeking a qualified IT Systems Engineer to assist in the development, operation, and maintenance of our various enterprise information technology systems and supporting subsystems. This encompasses assistance on client systems as advisor/liaison to our clients in order to satisfy any current and forecasted needs. It may include both qualifying the necessary requirements and providing demonstrations of the recommended solutions prior to any formal implementation. For this, the ideal candidate should possess strong professional interpersonal qualities in addition to the technical aptitude expected from an established IT expert.
The tasks listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional tasks related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
Plan, direct, and coordinate organizational and tactical activities of Service Desk personnel responsible for system administration.
Responsible for the system engineering activities of the team while translating client and organizational objectives into actionable business, organizational and technology strategies.
Install, configure and maintain client and 3rd party product components and subsystems.
Ensure the design and development of integrated business, engineering systems, and products support the achievement of the client's business goals.
Formulate contingency plans to address schedule revisions, manpower adjustments, fund allocations and work package requirements.
Set up and maintain Microsoft Windows servers and desktops in line with existing standards.
Respond to system failures and work with vendors to resolve issues related to hardware and software.
Perform regularly scheduled hardware and software maintenance and security patches, as well as database and file system backups.
Prepare disaster recovery plans and restore databases and file systems as needed.
Analyze and resolve product support deficiencies.
Monitor and track trouble tickets and change requests to ensure high quality customer service.
Mentor other Systems Administrators and assist with resolutions of technical issues and configuration problems.
Monitor system resource usage and ensure adequate resources are available to meet the IT requirements through resource scheduling and new resource acquisition.
Prepare detailed systems administration plans and level of effort estimates for meeting product roadmap release requirements; provide detailed bill of materials and cost estimates for new hardware and software or upgrades to and maintenance of existing hardware and software.
Track progress project milestones and ensure re met and participate in senior client project management reviews
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in computer science, information systems or related field and three (3) years' experience in Windows System Administration.
Associate's degree or technical diploma in an IT related field and ten years of relevant experience in in Windows System Administration.
IT Certifications and current work experience may be considered in lieu of college degrees.
Requires experience in deployment and maintenance of router, switch and wireless hardware and network management server configurations; supporting/troubleshooting network/system problems; coordinating with vendors for installation of network hardware and systems, and project implementation.
Requires experience maintaining and troubleshooting Windows Active Directory, Windows 2008, Windows R2 server, Exchange 2010/2016, SMTP, Windows 7 and 10, and Microsoft Office suites.
Requires a strong knowledge of Microsoft Group Policy, Registry-based policy, and Security policy configuration and administration.
Requires experience with Microsoft Windows Group Policies, File Security, Domain Name System (DNS), Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), Domain and LAN administration.
Requires experience with external Storage Systems and Backup Solutions such as Appasure.
Working knowledge of VMware.
Working knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server 2012/2014, Microsoft IIS 7, Linux.
Strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize effectively.
Additional Information: Working Conditions & Additional Information:
Work primarily performed in an office environment but may also include confined work space and outdoor locations.
Expected work hours are Monday through Friday 8am to 5 pm. Will be required to work weekends and after hours as needed to meet operational requirements and will be required to be on-call as necessary for functional or hierarchical escalation.
Valid Florida Driver's License (must maintain for duration of employment).
