SBM Offshore is currently recruiting for a contract Systems Designer.

ROLE PURPOSE

As the Systems Designer you work closely with Engineers and other Designers to accurately interpret the engineering design and ensure the design is accurately captured in the 2D design and/or intelligent piping and instrumentation drawing (P&ID) software. You are responsible for ensuring the design produces fit for purpose results in a functional and organized drawing. As the System Designer you will ensure application of best practices into design work and you are accountable to the Lead Designer and Discipline Manager for overall performance.

  • The System Designer may act as Lead Designer for assigned projects

ROLE CONTRIBUTION

  • In order to develop the design successfully within agreed scope and schedule YOU ARE TO:
    1.1. Utilize technical knowledge and software tools to clearly depict the design that can be easily and correctly interpreted by others1.2. Identify areas requiring more detailed instructions and clarify understanding/expectation as necessary with Discipline Lead; ensure no surprises
    1.2 Communicate with Engineers and/or Lead Designer to ensure design intent is understood to avoid rework
    1.3. Plan and deliver assigned tasks accurately within the agreed time frame.
    1.4. Prioritize activities and effectively manage conflicting deadlines ensuring continued progress to meet the schedule. Proactively provide Lead Designer with status updates
    1.5. Organize documents and deliverables so they are easy to understand and locate
    1.6. Collaborate with Engineers and other Designers to share information, produce a high quality product, and resolve design conflicts
    1.6. Seek clarification or guidance as soon as difficulties arise; recommend alternative solutions
    1.7. Escalate unresolved issues to the Lead Designer/Engineer to minimize delays in deliverables

The measure of your effectiveness in this will be:

  • Completion of design/drawing against budget and schedule

  • Functionality/constructability/manufacturability of design

  • To ensure the quality of design deliverables YOU ARE TO:
    2.1. Be self-motivated to improve technical competencies for assigned tasks
    2.2. Understand how assigned tasks fit within the project schedule and affect other stakeholders in meeting deadlines
    2.3. Demonstrate adaptability in implementing change while ensuring MOC procedures are
    2.4. Ensure consistency of design and symbology. Perform self- checks to produce error-free deliverables
    2.5. Collaborate with Package Engineers to ensure timely review of vendor documents and that comments are made with the required quality level
    2.6. Comply with project scope, work instructions, specifications, codes, industry standards and regulations per project requirements

The measure of your effectiveness in this will be:

  • Cost of Non-Quality

  • Demonstrated understanding of design impact on other disciplines

  • *If Acting as Lead Designer: In order to ensure team resources are properly allocated to meet project needs YOU ARE TO:
    3.1. Obtain agreement from Discipline Lead Engineer on appropriate resource allocation to ensure the project scope is completed per the project schedule
    3.2. Understand the technical competencies of design team members and assign work in accordance with their capabilities
    3.3. Manage Subcontractors and ensure relevant documents are reviewed timely and thoroughly
    3.4. Ensure each team member understands his/her role and responsibilities to deliver the design within the agreed budget, schedule, and quality standards
    3.5. Actively participate in all applicable project design reviews and follow through on design review action items
    3.6. Proactively interface with stakeholders to align expectations, prioritize design team activities, and resolve design conflicts
    3.7. Provide coaching and guidance as needed to team members; partner with Discipline Manager for mentoring staff as needed

The measure of your effectiveness in this will be:

  • Stakeholder feedback on team leadership

  • Evidence of support on staff improvement/development

  • Timely closure of interface issues

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Expert authority for Company.

  • Recommended at least 10 years of experience as a designer

  • Excellent technical knowledge and overview within his discipline.

  • Technical College Graduate qualified to HNC or BTS in Engineering Design or Multi- media.

  • Experience should include the ability to:

  • draft 2D process, marine, and loss prevention engineering drawings including Process Flow Diagrams, Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams, and Layout Drawings

  • be proficient with AutoCAD Software

  • be familiar with smart P&ID software including Aveva Diagrams

Headquartered in West Houston's Energy Corridor, the Houston Execution Center of SBM Offshore offers a 4-1/2 day workweek and a congenial work environment.
