The Systems Administrator at Montana Interactive (MI) is primarily responsible for managing server infrastructure hosting a wide range of systems and platforms. This position provides operational support, stability, and security to the services offered by MI to the State of Montana. This includes handling deployments, upgrades, monitoring, and troubleshooting activities for all systems and services.

We host and maintain multiple environments and platforms for our 300 plus eGovernment services for the State of Montana and local entities. You will work in a hosting environment using modern technology that poses new challenges and opportunities for innovation.

This is a full-time position located in Helena, MT that has the opportunity for remote work from another NIC portal location.

  • Maintain 24/7-365 uptime of enterprise operations

  • Install, configure, administer, and maintain Linux and Windows infrastructure

  • Actively monitor and mitigate the enterprise for security threats

  • Propose and implement containerized deployment and cloud hosting strategies

  • Collaborate with developers to automate software build, test and deployments

  • Support and maintain the Configuration Management Database (CMDB)

  • Maintain technical documentation of networking and administrative tasks in Confluence

  • Plan, test, and execute business resumption and disaster recovery best practices

  • Participate in strategic planning and advise the management team

  • Assist with security compliance management and enforcement (PCI, NIST)

  • Participate in disaster recover planning and operations

  • Manage assigned project activities to achieve stated project goals, objectives, and schedules

  • Provide Tier 2 incident support for applications as required to assist internal support teams

  • Participate in-call rotation for outages, deployments, and maintenance outside of business hours

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline

  • Experience administering both Windows and Linux environments

  • Experience with backups and disaster recovery

  • Experience with server virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V)

  • Experience managing application servers (IIS, WildFly, and Apache)

  • Experience with basic database administration (Oracle, SQL, MSSQL)

  • Working knowledge of TCP/IP networking, DNS, Postfix, and iptables

  • Experience in web application deployment, and troubleshooting

  • A desire to collaborate and the communication skills needed to do it effectively

  • Ability to communicate technical problems to non-technical audiences (staff, partners)

Learn more about this agency Responsibilities The Program Manager, Assistant Division Administrator (ADA): * Participates with the Division Administrator (DA) in developing and implementing Federal-aid oversight initiatives and stewardship functions through an annual risk assessment of the State's Federal-aid program. * Manages process reviews to improve and enhance project and program decision-making. * Provides program expertise to State and local government officials and engineers to ensure effective program delivery in accordance with Title 23 and related applicable Federal laws. * Recommends and facilitates the implementation of innovative programs and processes to improve the delivery of the transportation program in the State. * Directly supervises a multi-disciplinary staff that may include engineers, community planners, realty officers and specialists, and financial and administrative staff. Manages the Division's training plan. * Communicates organizational strategies, goals, objectives and priorities to internal and external audiences. Builds cohesive coalitions and partnerships with State and local officials.
