Job Summary

The Systems Administrator position requires an advanced knowledge of personal computer systems, server systems, data communications systems, Microsoft SharePoint services, Microsoft SQL, Business Intelligence systems, and Information Technology Support Services Management (ITSSM) tools including developing Web sites, online forms, online reports, business rules, systems updates, and automated deployments. The Systems Engineer position works closely with other technical staff, IT leadership, vendors, and key personnel within the health center organization and other areas as directed in the design, configuration, and maintenance of IT systems and application interfaces. Office 365 and Microsoft SharePoint experience is required. Microsoft Azure experience desired.

Responsibilities and Standards

  • Primary in the monitoring of systems alerts and logs and in maintaining documentation and checklists.

  • Monitor Enterprise data backup logs.

  • Perform morning checklist and update logs.

  • Maintain IT infrastructure monitoring systems.

  • Receive and respond to alerts from monitoring systems.

  • Assist in the setup, configuration, management, maintenance, and monitoring of assigned telephony and data communications services and equipment.

  • Maintain a good understanding of Cisco network and communication systems.

  • Maintain written and topology documentation of the Cisco systems.

  • Maintain backups of the Cisco systems configurations.

  • Be part of the installation team of the Cisco systems.

  • Work with communications vendors on issues or changes.

  • Consult with the Director of IT on a regular basis on the progression of issue resolution as well as discussing IT systems strategy and planning.

  • Perform advanced systems administration functions, as assigned, such as account management and device management in server systems.

  • Configure and maintain Active Directory objects and policies.

  • Configure and maintain Exchange object and policies.

  • Configure and maintain network printers on a Windows print server.

  • Maintain administrative duties on various server systems as assigned.

  • Travel to affiliated sites to provide technology support services and maintenance.

  • Perform moves, adds, and changes of equipment at remote sites.

  • Meet with vendors to discuss or complete required work at remote sites.

  • Respond to alerts by traveling to remote sites when necessary.

  • Work as member of the IT team for responsiveness to systems issues, monitoring alerts, or urgent support calls.

  • Act as an advanced skilled asset to be assigned to priority issues that require quick onsite or remote site intervention.

  • Be available to receive calls to an assigned mobile device to be notified of priority issues.

  • Assist in workflow diagramming for procedural documentation, which may or may not include the use of Visio or other similar tools.

  • Able to understand organizational workflows, processes, and procedures.

  • Able to verbalize, write out, or sketch workflow.

  • Provide technical on-site review and support for implementing projects.

  • Participate as project member or project lead for system upgrades, maintenance, or new installations.

  • Develop plans based on requirements gathered during on-site review.

  • Provide recommendations for implementing projects.

  • Perform as an advanced skilled asset in configuring, deploying, troubleshooting, maintaining, and inventorying corporate IT systems.

  • Configure, deploy, and troubleshoot servers, computers, phones, and peripherals of many varieties.

  • Document the moves, adds, and changes of these systems in the ITSSM.

  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, asset storage area, data closets, and data center.

  • Work during late night or weekend maintenance windows to assist in the upgrade or service of hardware and software.

  • Participate with team on systems upgrades when directed.

  • Roll-out client side hardware or software prior to Go-lives.

  • Upgrade servers that would interrupt service during business hours.

  • Upgrade communication lines or equipment that would interrupt service during business hours.

  • Install new network, server, or infrastructure equipment that would interrupt service during business hours.

  • Maintain policies, procedures, and checklists documentation as approved and assigned.

  • Document all work completed and save in the designated locations.

  • Update knowledge base material when procedures require adjustment.

  • Work with IT Support Technicians on making them knowledgeable of where to find documentation and how best to contribute to it.

  • Work collaboratively with other staff members in the design, configuration, and maintenance of the IT systems and support.

  • Participate in regular team meetings and project brainstorming sessions.

  • Participate as a project member or project lead for system upgrades, maintenance, or new installations.

  • Work with the IT Support Technicians to assure that project assignments are on track and provide regular updates to project managers.

  • Learn technologies and business functions as assigned. Demonstrate a self-directed interest in expanding knowledge areas to benefit the organization and its members.

  • Participate in training sessions pertaining to policies, procedures, and business systems.

  • Obtain technical certifications pertaining to an assigned technical educational track.

Job Specifications:

  • Efforts are generally responsive to work flow, must be able to work independently and prioritize work on a daily or weekly basis, subject to occasional reprioritization by others

  • Impact of work performance could result in a noticeable impact in the organization (either positive or negative) and may involve management attention.

  • May be required to perform the duties of other employees, including supervisors/managers, in their absence.

  • May be required to perform duties and responsibilities not listed in this description, on a temporary or long-term basis.

Experience:

  • Education/Training Level:

  • Must have 8 or more years of related experience and/or training. Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required. Understanding of healthcare terminology and industry challenges is required.

  • Licenses and Certifications:

  • Certifications specific to the IT industry are desired though not required including the Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA/MCSE), Microsoft Office 365 including SharePoint, Cisco Certified (CCENT/CCNA), CompTIA NET+, CompTIA Security+.

  • Communication Skills:

  • Communicates clearly and professionally, in both verbal and written form, with management, members of staff, and vendors. Must have the ability to follow manuals and read complex instructions. Must be comfortable with providing supervision to designated staff members.

  • Technology Skills:

  • Must have a strong understanding of IT service management, a wide variety of personal computing equipment and software; operate a variety of standard office equipment including personal computers, printers, scanners and copiers.
