Under the direction of the Information Technology Manager, this position will provide senior-level support and technical direction for the daily operation of computer servers and systems within the City's network. Works with the Information Technology Manager to manage networks (LAN), wide area networks (WAN), and other data communication systems. Responsible for maintaining, managing and repairing system's servers and helps in the design and analysis of network models and new systems. Monitors cyber-security compliance in accordance with current industry best practices and standards. Keeps systems operating efficiently by performing any necessary updates, patches and repairs to accomplish the goals set forth by the Information Technology Manager.

Examples of Essential Functions

  • Manage and/or assist in City IT projects as assigned.

  • Perform helpdesk support as needed.

  • This position is responsible for responding to occasional support issues after hours, holidays and weekends.

  • Performs other related tasks, projects and work as directed.

Education and Experience

REQUIREMENTS

A. Training and Experience:

  • Associates Degree in Computer Science preferred or a minimum of 5 years' experience providing broad knowledge in supporting networks, servers, PC's, software and project management.

  • Ability to understand, gather and document system requirements from the business users.

  • Excellent customer service, communication, organization, and project management skills are required. Must enjoy working in a team environment.

  • Network + and Security + or ability to obtain within the first year.

B. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Server operating systems, Hyper-V, active directory, group policy, and SAN.

  • Knowledge of MS SQL databases.

  • Working knowledge of municipal government preferred.

  • Must understand network security best practices and procedures.

  • Skill in managing DHCP and DNS.

  • Skill in both written and oral communications for effective expression of concepts.

  • Ability to be self-managed, a self-starter, take ownership of the work assigned, and deliver accurate results in a timely and reliable manner.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City staff, elected and appointed officials, and the general public.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to safeguard sensitive or confidential information from intentional or unintentional disclosure.

  • Ability to analyze situations objectively, and to determine proper courses of action within the established framework of policies and procedures.

  • Ability to work outside of normal business hours when required.

Supplemental Information

Physical requirements:

  • Tasks involve some physical effort, i.e., some standing and walking, or frequent light lifting (5-10 pounds); or minimal dexterity in the use of fingers, limbs, or body in the operation of shop or office equipment; may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or work station.

  • Tasks involve frequent walking, standing; some lifting and carrying of moderate weight (12-20 pounds); and/or the operation of vehicles, office, shop, or hand tools in which manipulative skills and hand-eye coordination are important ingredients of safe and/or productive operations.

  • Tasks involve the regular, and at times sustained, performance of heavier physical tasks such as walking over rough or uneven surfaces, bending, stooping, working in confined spaces, and lifting or carrying moderately heavy (20-50 pounds) items and occasionally very heavy (100 pounds or over) items.

Environmental Requirements:

  • Tasks are routinely performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions (e.g. dirt, cold, rain, fumes), exposure to adverse environmental conditions, exposure to extreme heat/cold or extreme weather conditions, exposure to strong odors, smoke, toxic chemicals, dust or pollen and exposure to elements that can cause illness (e.g., pathogenic substances, virus, and parasites).

Sensory Requirements:

  • Tasks may require sound and visual perception and discrimination.

  • Tasks require oral communications ability.

HIPAA Compliance Statement:

All employees who have access to health information whose confidentiality is protected by the HIPAA Privacy Rule must have an understanding and knowledge of the Privacy Rule that corresponds to their job responsibilities. Employees who violate the requirements of the HIPAA Privacy Rule will be subject to discipline, up to and including termination.
