POSITION OVERVIEW

The System Administrator at Vertex Education is pivotal in maintaining and enhancing our IT infrastructure to ensure that reliable and efficient technology supports our mission of changing lives through education. This role involves managing, upgrading, and securing our servers, networks, and software systems to facilitate the seamless delivery of our educational programs.

Key responsibilities include ensuring system performance, implementing security measures, and troubleshooting issues to prevent downtime. By maintaining a robust and secure IT environment, the System Administrator helps uphold Vertex Education's commitment to providing an uninterrupted and effective educational experience.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Design and Deployment of System Infrastructure:

  • Planning and Architectural Design: Create detailed hardware and software plans that address organizational needs, focusing on scalability, security, and efficiency

  • Hardware and Software Configuration: Set up system devices like servers, storage, Group Policy Objects, and Active Directory to meet corporate standards and enhance performance.

  • Server Installation and Configuration: Install and maintain server hardware and software, including operating systems and network settings, to ensure reliability and high performance.

  • Data Center Design and Integration: Establish server setups for optimal performance, involving operating system installations and network configurations.

Performance Monitoring, Troubleshooting, and Optimization

  • System Monitoring: Manage server hardware and software installation and maintenance to ensure optimal performance.

  • Troubleshooting and Problem Resolution: Diagnose and solve issues like server failures and performance bottlenecks using hardware and software troubleshooting and preventive measures.

  • Performance Optimization: Continuously assess and improve system performance to eliminate bottlenecks and improve data flow.

  • Troubleshooting Issues: Address and prevent system issues such as server failures and software errors through detailed analysis and proactive solutions.

Security and Compliance:

  • Security Management: Implement security protocols to protect servers and data from unauthorized access and cyber threats, including managing firewalls and security updates.

  • Compliance and Standards Adherence: Ensure compliance with regulatory and industry standards through routine audits.

  • Security Assessments and Remediation: Conduct regular security checks, identify risks, and quickly mitigate them.

  • Encryption and Data Protection: Apply encryption and data protection measures to secure sensitive information across networks.

Knowledge Sharing and Policy Development:

  • Policy and Best Practices Development: Develop and enforce system policies and best practices in line with organizational goals.

  • Training and Mentorship: Offer training and mentorship to enhance staff understanding of system technologies and operations.

  • Documentation and Knowledge Management: Maintain accurate and current documentation of network setups and policies for easy access and consistency.

  • Emergency Response Planning: Create and uphold plans to address network issues quickly, reducing downtime and business disruption.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education, Certifications, and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).

  • Proven experience in system administration, network administration, or a related role.

  • Knowledge of VMWare is required.

  • Knowledge of operating systems (Windows, Linux/Unix) and virtualization technologies.

  • Familiarity with networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN).

  • Experience with Google Workspace is required.

  • Microsoft Office 365 experience preferred

  • Knowledge of backup technologies (ie Veeam) a plus.

  • Experience with system monitoring tools and backup software.

BACKGROUND CHECKS

  • The incumbent in this position will be required to pass a criminal history background check

  • Must be able to obtain and hold a valid IVP Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card at all times

PHYSICAL AND TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Hybrid work environment requiring a minimum of 3 days onsite.

  • Travel between campuses is required from time to time.

  • This position occasionally requires lifting objects (up to 25 pounds).

  • This position may require sitting for long periods, talking on the phone, standing, kneeling, stooping and concentrating.

  • Local and in-state travel required. Some out-of-state travel may be required.
