Systems Administrator I - Research Laboratory Technician

Ball Aerospace is looking for an experienced technician with computer and network administrator experience to manage a local research network with 200+ computers, 100+ users, and avionics test equipment used for researching avionics cyber assessments, mitigations and protections in a dynamic environment.

What You'll Do:

  • Be responsible for maintaining research environment by identifying network requirements, installing upgrades, and monitoring network performance.

  • Provide agile technical support, assistance and guidance to our users and their evolving and dynamic needs to accomplish team goals and milestones.

  • Be responsible for both physical and virtual systems (using VMWare vSphere), domain controllers, web servers, license servers, back-up servers, various application servers, etc.

  • Maintain compliance with Air Force regulations.

  • Be a collaborative member of a group of scientists and engineers at Air Force Research Laboratory at Wright-Patterson AFB, Dayton, Ohio.

  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others to maintain a positive and productive work environment.

  • Perform other duties as necessary.

What You'll Need:

  • Related Bachelor's and 2 or more years of related experience; or HS Diploma and 8 or more years of related experience.

  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Associate's, Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for additional years of experience.

  • Related certifications may count towards years of related experience.

  • Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.

  • A strong knowledge in Microsoft Active Directory functionality and architecture integrated into.

  • CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+ certification. Microsoft, Cisco and VMWare certs preferred.

  • Basic Knowledge of administering network storage environments (SAN).

  • Familiarity with VMWare vSphere environment architecture and administration.

  • Experience with Windows (server and client) and Linux (server and client) operating systems.

  • Knowledge in strategic planning, network design, documentation, diagramming, and implementation.

  • Effective communication skills.

  • Preferred skills/experience:

  • Experience with PC hardware repair and maintenance and desire to learn advanced hardware maintenance techniques including cable assembly and testing.

  • Comfortability installing, configuring operating systems and application software.

  • Certification or experience with VMware environment including VSphere, Horizon, and vSAN.

  • Comfortability using scripting (VBS, bash, etc.).

  • Knowledge of Risk Management Framework (RMF).

  • Knowledge of MIL-STD-1553 and ARINC-429.

  • Experience with SQL database design and management.

  • GITLAB and Kubernetes usage and management experience.

  • Experience with managing offline and/or DoD Networks.

  • Desire to expand expertise and respond to requests for unique testbed and avionics technologies to support AFRL research environment.

  • Ability to be a quick study and have technical zeal.

Full-Time On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site full-time. Travel and local commute between Ball campuses and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • HIRING SALARY RANGE: $73,500 - $99,500 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)

Responsibilities will include overseeing day-to-day information system administration operations, resolving complex problems, and developing innovative solutions to meet changing security requirements. This individual will be able to work independently as well as collaborate with internal and external customers to create a positive, productive work environment. The ideal candidate will be adaptable to diverse office situations, procedures and demands.</p><p>What You'll Do:</p><ul><li><p>Install, manage, and maintain Active Directory 2016 and 2019 Networks, Windows 7, Windows 10 as well as various Linux based operating systems, such as Ubuntu, CentOS, and Red Hat hosted on physical platforms in secure stand-alone as well as domain environments in support of program initiatives.</p></li><li><p>Install, configure, and troubleshoot network issues including DHCP, DNS, and IP conflicts.</p></li><li><p>Provide support to engineering/development applications and environments.</p></li><li><p>Ensure OS patching, virus definition updates, security scanning and remediation are completed within established timeframes.</p></li><li><p>Manage Network Attached Storage (NAS) and replication of data to ensure no data loss due to lack of backups or storage capacity.</p></li><li><p>Conduct security reviews and tests of systems to verify security features and controls are functional and effective.</p></li><li><p>Install and manage Virtual Machines (VM).</p></li><li><p>Take corrective action to resolve problems identified and ensure test equipment, network resources, and information systems are operated, maintained, reutilized, and disposed of in accordance with established policies and procedures.</p></li><li><p>Support security authorization activities in compliance with National Institute of Standards and Technology Risk Management Framework (NIST RMF).</p></li><li><p>Design hardware and software infrastructure to meet architecture, project development and QOS requirements.</p></li><li><p>Implement process for the management, review, and retention of security audit data.</p></li><li><p>Establish system specific recovery processes to ensure security features and procedures are properly protected and restored.</p></li><li><p>Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.</p></li><li><p>Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company.
