General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Systems Administrator on the Navy's Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) program. This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation's core defense/intelligence services and systems. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:
Acts as the subject matter expert (SME) for the Windows and Linux Total Ship Computing environment and Network infrastructure on-board Navy ships
Installs, configures, and maintains software onboard Littoral Combat Ships
The work entails installing and configuring Windows/Linux servers, setting up and maintaining DNS/Exchange/Active Directory, supporting and maintaining virtual environments, and troubleshooting problems with deployed systems
Manage daily break/fix scenarios, updates, backups and other problems that arise
Ideal candidate should have strong troubleshooting skills and be able to work independently
Able to troubleshoot non software issues such as hardware/network/encryption issues
Directly interfaces with Navy crews and representatives as well as other contractors (primes or subs depending on the situation)
Conducts functional, environmental, operational, and/or performance tests on hardware, software, and systems
Isolates and documents issues and defects
Follows direction and is accountable for the successful completion of tasks, thereby making a significant contribution to the team
Receives direction from the assigned Hull Lead engineer on technical objectives of assignments
Demonstrates understanding of commitments and interdependencies
Ensures process/policy compliance
Supports continuous improvement initiatives
Frequent contact with multiple work groups
Usually participates with other members of the team
Shows initiative on assignments, exercises independent judgment and professionally executes projects with little direction
Travel is required (see below)
Security clearance is required (see below)
Solid understanding of Microsoft Windows Desktop (Windows 7, 10) and Server (2008, 2016) technologies including experience with traditional software delivery and application installation processes and configurations
Solid understanding of Linux server technologies including experience with traditional software delivery and application installation processes and configurations
Proficient with virtualization software such as vSphere and ESXi
Experience integrating software on a common operating system
Experience with group policies
DNS/Exchange/Active Directory Administration Experience
ADDITIONAL APPLICABLE SKILLS:
Experience with Scanning/Vulnerability Management tools (VMS, ACAS, Nessus)
Experience with Data Protection Software such as Acronis or Veritas
Ability to perform network troubleshooting (Certificates, 802.1x, multicast, TCP/IP etc)
Experience with scripting and automation technologies, specifically PowerShell and BASH
Experience with security software such as McAfee's Host Based Security System
Operating system certifications (Windows Server, RedHat Linux)
Security + certification, or ability to obtain Security + certification
Linux system administration experience
Experience with systems administration software such as Splunk and Landesk
Experienced with designing, configuring, and securing virtual machines
Experience with implementing basic Windows mail servers.
Knowledge of Exchange 2010 & 2016.
Microsoft Deployment Toolkit knowledge
Troubleshooting skills with Active Directory Replication
Storage Area Network (SAN) administration
Data Backup Systems Administrator
Experience configuring SNMP on Windows servers
Experience supporting end-users
Experience in configuring and troubleshooting Alcatel and Cisco switches/routers/Firewalls
Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills
PREFERRED DEGREE TYPES AND EXPERIENCE:
IAT Level II/II Certification
Other applicable certifications (e.g. Windows/Linux Certifications, CompTIA Security+, Network+, CCNA, MCSA, MCSE, Linux+)
Bachelor's degree in systems engineering, computer science, software engineering, electrical engineering, information technology or a related specialized area or field
Experience working on the LCS class of ships

The candidate will be based in San Diego, CA and will support the LCS platforms, including travel to other domestic ports and OCONUS ports as appropriate. The selected candidate will be expected to travel 40% of the time supporting Littoral Combat Ships (LCS-class ships) and will work within the parameters and rules common to U.S. Naval vessels.
Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required within a reasonable period of time. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S.
Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
