Systems Administrator (6308)

The City of Takoma Park is seeking a System Administrator to ensure that the City's technology infrastructure runs smoothly and efficiently through maintaining, upgrading, and managing the City's software, hardware, and networks. The ideal candidate will be resourceful, able to diagnose and resolve problems quickly, and have the patience and ability to communicate with interdisciplinary teams and end users. This position is eligible for membership in the AFSCME union.

Typical Duties Include:

• Installing and configuring software and hardware;

• Managing network servers and technology tools;

• Setting up accounts and workstations;

• Monitoring performance and maintaining systems according to requirements;

• Troubleshootings issues and outages;

• Ensuring security through access controls, backups, and firewalls;

• Upgrading systems with new releases and models;

• Developing expertise in order train staff on new technologies;

• Performing other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required to be successful are:

• Proven experience as a System Administrator, Network Administrator or similar role;

• Expert level experience in Active Directory Domain environments;

• Expert level experience in Microsoft Azure, Cloud Computing Services;

• Expert level experience in Veeam Backup Technologies;

• Expert level experience in Cisco Meraki Network Technologies;

• Experience with databases, networks (LAN, WAN) and patch management;

• Knowledge of system security (e.g. intrusion detection systems) and data backup/recovery;

• Familiarity with various operating systems and platforms;

• Resourcefulness and problem-solving aptitude;

• Excellent communication skills.

Minimum Qualifications include:

• Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related discipline

Preferred Candidates may possess the following:

• Professional certifications such as Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA)

The salary for this position is graded between $86,155.25 and $90,090.68 and will be offered at a level consistent with the experience and qualifications of the candidate. We offer a highly competitive benefits package, including 100% paid premiums of medical, dental, and vision insurance for employee only coverage, and 80% paid premiums for dependents.
