Role Summary

The Senior System Test Engineer - Simulation Tools is responsible for developing Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and other test systems that are required for the development of ADAS products

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, Develop, Commission and Deploy world class HILs and associated infrastructure using technologies such as but not limited to Matlab, Simulink, dSPACE, NI Veristand, ETAS Labcar, IPG Carmaker, etc. to test both ECU-Level and System-Level software requirements.

  • Design and Develop Controls Test System software (i.e. Plant Models, Loss Models, and Closed Loop Control Algorithms etc.) and HW components as required to safely test ECUs and systems in the Hardware-in-the-loop environment.

  • Develop test automation scripts and libraries using industry standard test automation tools.

  • Perform Data Analysis on the test execution output files to generate plots, charts, reports, spreadsheets, presentations etc

  • Develop Testing Infrastructure to auto-test ECU functional requirements within a real-world Vehicle Level environment.

  • Perform bench level tests, create reports, create defects and review them with the Verification Project Lead

  • Support the selection and design of new test equipment such as HILs, RCP systems and custom Test Properties.

  • Develop and provide test infrastructure user instruction manual and training, as required, to the crossfunctional team

  • Lead the planning, scheduling, monitoring and reporting of all bench testing/automation related activities for various projects

  • Present test results to the development teams / customer as required

Key Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor's / Master's degree in engineering or demonstrated equivalent skills. Master's degree preferred.
  • 4-8 years experience regarding Responsibility / Main Activities (listed above) in serial development or comparable experience in automotive (mandatory); electronic (preferable) industry

The engineer will plan, coordinate, and analyze data from engine dyno, powertrain dyno, chassis dyno and HIL resources; including interaction with technicians and support engineers. Evaluations will occur with new powertrain technologies that span the hardware, calibration and control domains. The engineer will analyze and solve complex system problems as they relate to engine performance, fuel consumption, emissions, and base engine calibration development. The engineer will manipulate and utilize large and complex sets of engine mapping data to create the base engine calibration which achieve propulsion system functional objectives. Basic Qualifications: * Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent Engineering degree from an ABET accredited program or equivalent program * Strong knowledge of internal combustion engines * Data acquisition experience collecting and processing data * System knowledge of engine airflow, combustion, thermodynamics and emissions development. * Outstanding problem solving and analytical skills * Teamwork skills and ability to work independently * Effective communication and interpersonal skills Preferred Qualifications: * Master of Science in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university * 1 year of propulsion system experience or equivalent project experience (SAE, Ecocar, etc.) * Experience and overall knowledge of electrification principles * Calibration process knowledge using design of experiments and advanced optimization techniques * Proficient in advanced simulation tools * Proficient in Matlab / Simulink * Proficient in developing presentations to convey program direction / conclusions Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Auburn Hills MI
