The Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) is seeking a System Safety Engineer. This program is part of Boeing Defense, Space & Security's (BDS) Vertical Lift Division and is located in Ridley Park, PA. The V-22 Osprey Tiltrotor and CH-47 Chinook programs are seeking enthusiastic candidates to join our System Safety Engineering Team. At Boeing, Safety is at the core of everything we do. As a System Safety engineer, you will have a unique opportunity to work across the entire life cycle of the V-22 Osprey or CH-47 Chinook platform, from conceptual development into design and test, production and sustainment of the fielded aircraft. You'll experience the big picture and fascinating complexities of the defense industry while getting hands on experience on the aircraft.
As a System Safety Engineer, your primary goal will be to identify and mitigate all potential and existing hazards. You will have the opportunity to learn about all of the aircraft subsystems and their interactions while collaborating with the Engineering Design and Subsystem Teams. We are looking for a candidate that can ask the tough questions, challenge conventional thinking and bring potential hazards to our aircraft and crew to light. Typical tasks include assessing a variety of Engineering documents, data and artifacts, while working with the Engineering Teams to determine the safest and most cost effective solutions to a wide variety of actual and potential hazards. Your assessment will include gathering data from field, factory and engineering, calculating probability and severity of possible outcomes and working with the Design teams to influence a safer more robust system. In this role, you'll have the opportunity to interface with all levels of Engineering and Program Management as well as our Customers.
This is a unique opportunity in a fast growing and critical discipline. We will pair selected candidates with an experienced System Safety Professional to grow your knowledge of both Safety and the Rotorcraft Platforms while ensuring Mission Success.
Duties will include but not limited to:
Applies an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to assist with analyses, design, development and verification of a lifecycle balanced system of systems and system solutions.
Assists with analyses to evaluates customer/operational needs to define system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces.
Assists with various analyses to optimize total system of systems and/or system architecture.
Assists with analyses for affordability, safety, reliability, maintainability, testability, human systems integration, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, system security, regulatory, certification, product assurance and other specialties quality factors into a preferred configuration to ensure mission success.
This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Must demonstrate the ability to communicate well and work within a team environment with first time quality.
Proficiency in Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required.
Engineering background with experience in systems, mechanical, electrical or software engineering is required.
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
Experience working across organizations and cross-functional groups to ensure project coordination, implementation and completion is desired.
Experience with System Safety is desired.
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience. In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
