This position is part of the Dream Chaser Flight Operations Directorate's Mission Systems Element. Mission Systems includes the facilities, equipment, software, and communication infrastructure necessary to operate the Dream Chaser spacecraft. Engineers within the Mission Systems group are responsible for the design, integration, testing, and maintenance of Dream Chaser Mission Control Center systems. These systems are used throughout spacecraft development, integrated testing, and real-time mission operations.

This hands-on technical position will support the development, integration, and administration of control center software, computing systems, and networks. As part of a diverse Mission Systems team, this position will participate in all day-to-day control center activities. Technical responsibilities include (but are not limited to) support and administration for computing hardware and systems, COTS and custom software, peripheral equipment, configuration management, and basic network connectivity to ensure the efficient and successful operations of Dream Chaser control center systems. Coordination is also required with multiple IT POC's within the Mission Systems team, as well as at SNC, NASA, and other subcontractor organizations to ensure strategic alignment and governance compliance.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Working as part of a small and dynamic team to complete the development and certification of Dream Chaser control center systems

  • Performing setup, configuration, integration, and maintenance/repair of mission-critical computing hardware, software, networking, telecommunications, data center equipment racks, and other related systems and peripherals

  • Participating in the research, design, and selection and/or development, build and test of new software applications

  • Supporting software development and API integration as required for hosting software applications within a complex mission-critical environment

  • Supporting design, implementation, and administration of configuration management systems

  • Testing and validating hardware and software changes to operational equipment, ensuring configuration control of operational environments

  • Test plan development, execution, and reporting

  • Providing end-user training and support

  • Design and operations documentation development, including systems manuals, operations handbooks, interface control documents, and operational procedures

  • Real-time systems monitoring, anomaly resolution, and operations support

  • Punctuality to work each day and prepared to work scheduled work hours

  • Other duties as assigned

COMPLIANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for thoughtful adherence to all SNC Policies, Procedures, and Compliance regulations (internal and external)

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • B.S. in Engineering, Computer Science, or another related field

  • 3+ years of relevant experience

  • System administration knowledge and experience (Windows Server 2016 or newer, Windows 10, Linux/CentOS, LDAP/active directory, DNS, DHCP, Domain Administration)

  • Experience working with Dell hardware components

  • Virtualization architecture and VM administration expertise (VMWare vSphere, vCenter, vSan, Horizon, ESXi)

  • Travel and flexible work hours are periodically required

OTHER DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Version control systems and database administration experience (Git, Bitbucket, SVN, MySQL, MS Access, MS SQL Server, Oracle)

  • Software application administration expertise (STK or FreeFlyer, SolarWinds, Atlassian products, Microsoft office products)

  • Basic knowledge of networking concepts and some experience working with Cisco components (Cisco CCNA/CCNP preferred)

  • Motivated and resourceful self-learner and problem-solver

  • Experience monitoring critical system performance and troubleshooting issues real-time as needed to resolve issues and restore system functionality or performance

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision

  • Must be able to work in a highly collaborative, fast paced environment with an emphasis in rapid prototyping and hands-on involvement

  • Strong interpersonal skills
