Amazon Web Services is seeking a Systems Engineering Manager to lead the Corporate Communication Engineering Team. As a proven leader-of-leaders, and possessing a wealth of experience supporting Linux systems, and an understanding of networking, you will lead a highly talented team of Systems and Communication Engineers who support our multi-platform communication systems. The team is responsible for engineering and delivering system support to multiple business units across multiple technologies.

The candidate will create a culture of engineering excellence and work backward from our customers to understand their business requirements. As a people leader, you will be responsible for the growth and development of a team that has strong technical knowledge in System Architecture, Engineering and System Development. You will have experience managing multi-disciplined Engineering teams in an enterprise environment, and with implementing automated solutions across a variety of applications and systems. You will be highly motivated, enthusiastic, have an inquisitive mind, and be able to operate in an ambiguous world.

Today, City Light is a recognized national leader in energy efficiency and environmental stewardship. We are seeking a self-motivated individual: The Substation Large Projects Engineering Lead will fill the role of technical project lead for the Substation Engineering Group. Ideally, the incumbent will have experience supervising and/or leading project teams, good project management skills, strong communication skills, and technical background in substation projects involving planning, design, development, and construction of substation electrical systems. The incumbent will coordinate contracting work with consultants; perform contract design reviews and approvals and assumes a leading role in the selection, procurement, installation, testing, acceptance, operation, and maintenance of Seattle City Light's substation electrical systems. The selected candidates must be team leaders who are interested in mentoring engineers and technicians, problem-solving, and will lead scheduling and monitoring activities to meet deadlines. This position will report to the Senior Substation Manager. Job Responsibilities: Duties include, but are not limited to: * Supervising and/or leading a highly technical group of electrical engineers and consultants working on Substation and Relay systems to support the electrical transmission and distribution system. * As a technical expert, serves as a project manager for electrical power system projects that are difficult and technically complicated or complex. Projects include the selection, procurement, installation, testing, acceptance, operation, and maintenance of Substation Systems. * Oversees testing of electrical power systems interfaces and monitors the effects of integration designs and modifications. Evaluates testing outcomes and recommendations for problem resolution when system conflicts arise. * Oversees the preparation of preliminary and long-range plans, estimates, budgets, material requirements, detail final plans, specifications, work orders and instructions, schedules, operating and maintenance instructions, special conditions, and agreements. * Approves contract change orders and payments. * Directs the coordination and review of work submitted by consultants and manufacturers. * Review and approve test results. * Consults with Electrical Power System Engineers in the use of computer-based analytical tools and mathematical models to optimize system capacity, to maximize operations at design capacity and to improve equipment utilization. * Review equipment specifications and contract agreements. * Knowledge of SCADA/RTU and communication equipment interface. * Oversees highly complex detail design work for substation projects. Qualifications: Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or other combinations of education and/or experience which provides preparation to do professional electrical engineering work on major electrical power systems. Experience: Minimum eight (8) years of experience including six (6) years of professional electrical system engineering equivalent to the electrical power system engineer. An additional two (2) years supervisory, lead or project management experience is required to be a Principal Electrical Power System Engineer. To perform the technical expert work of this classification requires an additional two years of advanced experience with defining, interpreting and organizing major system-wide transmission or distribution projects that involve multiple jurisdictions and complex engineering circumstances. Technical Knowledge Requirements: Applicable knowledge of: * Electrical power system theory * Electrical power system transmission, distribution, protection, control, and metering design practices * Electric utility operations and safety * Electrical power protective relaying and control systems testing Experience with: * Substations design and operations * Substation Protection and Control systems * Experience with substation standards * Strong computer skills * Work with field crews * Coordination of activities which impact engineering, field crews, and operations personnel For field assignments, the incumbent must be willing and able to work in all types of weather and in or near construction sites where there is traffic, hazardous or toxic substances, and high voltage energized equipment. May be required to work nights, evenings, weekends or holidays. Certification/License: * Current Washington State driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility. * Registration as a Professional Electrical Engineer in the State of Washington. Preference will be given for Substation Engineering Lead applicants who possess the Desired Qualifications: * A minimum of six years of experience in the area of Substations * A minimum of six years in the areas of substation design and construction. * Familiarity with NERC Reliability Compliance, NESC and State Regulations. * Budget management experience * Experience in project management * Outage coordination and test scheduling * SCADA Resource and/or Program Management experience * Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint. * Strong interpersonal and communication skills both verbal and written * Electric utility experience is strongly preferred. * Willingness to learn and accept responsibility, comply with safety rules and regulations, work efficiently, effectively and independently.
