SUMMARY:The position of System Engineer plays a key rolein the development and validation of instrument systems for running molecular diagnostic tests for the In Vitro Diagnostics (IVD) global market place.We are seeking candidates with experience in automating assay processes on instrumentation that perform liquid handling, sample processing, and optical signal analysis. Experience in product development, systems engineering, and verifying system performance by testing is required. Expertise in the areas of microfluidics, optical subsystems, robotic handling, and integration of biochemical reagents onto instruments is required. Experience in medical device software development and validation is strongly desired.Knowledge and experience with PCR assays and associated data analysis methods is a plus. Training or experience in the use of industry standard reliability tools, process capability analysis, and use of computers and IT systems is also desired.Candidates with additional knowledge and experience in the processes associated with IVD product development would be prioritized.   • Participate in technical projects per the Life Cycle Management and product development processes. * Develop automated processes for running molecular-based diagnostic assays on instrumentation that perform liquid handling, sample processing, and optical signal analysis. * Carry out tasks as necessary to run test campaigns to verify requirements and design specifications, and ensure conformance to intended use of products. * Collect, analyze, and develop report packages to support system verification and validations, and compile content for regulatory submissions. * Conduct reliability analysis, testability analysis, software reliability, fault tolerance, and system stress analysis on instrument systems that run diagnostic assays. * Participate on project team through the steps of design, development, and validation.General Skills, Abilities, Attributes*

This is an excellent opportunity for a team player to participate in the growth of a fast-paced company developing, manufacturing and supplying a wide array of medical diagnostic tests that allow healthcare providers to select and monitor patient response to therapy or identify molecular characteristics of a disease. RMD's blood-screening systems also help to ensure the safety of blood and blood products before they are used for medical procedures. Essential Job Functions & Major Contributions: * Perform the following activities according to approved procedures: * Preventative maintenance (PM's) * Installation/operational qualifications (IOQ's) * Troubleshooting, part replacement and repairs * Install/deinstall/relocate instruments and computer work stations * Install or upgrade system and application software * Establish network connections for remote access to externally placed instruments * All activities performed are documented accurately and in a timely manner in the electronic instrument database according to approved procedures * Provide limited IT support for in-house lab based instruments and the secure data repository * Address field service calls (both in-house and externally) according to dispatch procedures and triage with Applications Support coworkers as appropriate * Build effective customer relationships in a professional manner through solution-oriented communications and service, providing on-site or telephone support as needed * Learn to solve a variety of instrument/software problems of diverse scope and complexity by analyzing instrument documentation and consulting with subject matter experts * Apply technical expertise and knowledge to successfully complete more challenging assignments and serves as subject matter expert to advise/mentor coworkers * Work with Systems Development subject matter experts (SMEs) on RMD instruments in the latter stages of development to learn new Roche instrumentation, e.g., installation, qualification (IQ/OQ), maintenance and service activities * Review/approve qualification documents (IQ/OQ) executed by coworkers. Provide input on new/revised qualification procedures for RMD instruments. * Train with Development coworkers and/or Global Customer Support to acquire basic service training and/or advanced service and troubleshooting skills as needed * Interface with high-level technical support to obtain additional technical expertise for troubleshooting difficult or recurring issues: Global Customer Support (GCS), Case Investigation & Resolution (CIR), Systems and Assay Development, and Global Product Care * Train, coach and/or mentor other team members and Development colleagues on instrument service and internal processes. Provides information and guidance to manager and senior members of team reviewing new/revised service requirements. * Comply with safety policies, practices and procedures at all times. Maintain safe habits and practices with regard to safety requirements both in-house and externally at customer sites. Education: * Minimum (required): Associates degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, related field, or equivalent combination of education and work experience. * Preferred: Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical/Electronic/Mechanical Engineering or related field. Experience: * Minimum: 5-7 years of experience in an IVD GMP/ISO regulated environment servicing medical devices R&D, Hospitals or Clinical Laboratories. * Preferred: 8+ years of experience working in an IVD GMP/ISO regulated environment servicing medical devices in R&D, Hospitals or Clinical Laboratories. Other Qualifications: * Understanding of FDA and ISO regulations related to instrument support and qualification * Meticulous attention to detail to accurately document all activities and ensure quality support is provided both internally and at external sites * Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and time management skills * Demonstrated proficiency to learn new skills/software/tools rapidly * Ability to be flexible with changing work priorities and follow procedures/manager instructions with a cooperative attitude * Strong work ethic and communication skills * Experience operating and/or developing Roche instrument systems preferred (e.g., cobas 6800/8800, cobas 4800, cobas s201, MagNA Pure, COBAS AmpliPrep/COBAS TaqMan, including Hamilton STAR/STARlet) or similar experience with other fluidic systems Position Requirements: * This position is based in Pleasanton, CA with some work performed in Santa Clara, CA (1-5 days per month based on business needs) * Must maintain a valid passport and driver's license (with REAL ID required by 01-Oct- 2021) * Estimated travel amount is 20-25% based on business needs.
