As the Systems Engineer you are responsible for the development and realization of electrification component (Inverter, OBC, DC-DC) opportunities in North America

Your challenges?

  • You will review customer RfQs, generate compliance matrix, evaluate technical feasibility & support quote creation

  • You lead technical customer communication for RfQ projects

  • You support core team with (a) Creation of system specifications & requirements, (b) Defining and evaluating concepts for power electronic components and sub-systems, per NA customer needs and trends

  • You will ensure maturity level according to customer and VSeA milestones. Ensure progress in development by using LOP and also usage of VSeA Tools and Methods

  • You define tests on component level to meet customer requirements

  • You contribute to design reviews, drawing reviews and design review with supplier.

  • You will interface with customer engineering teams on current & future programs and with advanced engineering team to understand current and future architectures, requirements & technology needs

  • You will support NA Demo vehicle design and implementation

  • You are the liaison between core team and customer software teams

  • You will support controls integration; architecture and onsite software flashing

  • You lead discussions with customer software teams on software architecture, strategy, integration and implementation

  • You understand NA customer software requirements and feed into core team

  • You have responsibility for the development of PE components

  • You develop innovative and reliable solutions that fulfill specifications.

  • You will evaluate test results together with test engineer and customer DRE

  • You are responsible for maintenance of technical data (3D, drawing, BOM, specifications)

  • You review customer requirements and ensure the fulfillment in the development.

  • You will be benchmarking NA competition and identifying focus areas for VSeA

  • You ensure proper communication with customer, global product teams and the Geeds team.

  • You interface with the customer for the R&D subjects of RfQs.

  • You will break down and cascade internally customer requests and needs as well as platform requests and needs.

  • You will share technical topics with prototype workshop and suppliers.

  • You will lead design activities with internal and external contributors.

  • You contribute to the D-FMEA sessions

  • You will report and escalate to your technical project manager or R&D manager as needed.

Now let's talk about you!

  • You must be able to work in the U.S. without requiring visa sponsorship either now or in the future. No entry level, coops, interns, F1 (CPT/OPT), H1B or TN visas will be considered.

  • You have B.S. in Electrical engineering or comparable study paths (M.S would be even better!)

  • You have 5 years of professional experience in power electronics & vehicle electrification at an OEM or Tier 1

  • You have experience managing inverters, onboard chargers and DC/DC converters which are the 3 core products in our portfolio.

  • In addition, your knowledge of system engineering methods and tools, as well as knowledge of software methods and tools will be key contributors to your success in this role.

  • You have experience interacting with internal and external customers at the OEM or Tier 1 level. .

As the Power Electronics (PE) Controller Engineering Technical Specialist (TS) you will have the global responsibilities for FCA's PE controller product development and research for all electric vehicle platforms which include mHEV, HEV, PHEV and BEV. The Engineer must be a strong systems-focused team player with interdisciplinary experience/expertise, and willing to work in a fast paced environment. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: * Developing cost effective and reliable PE Controllers using cutting edge technologies, simulation tools, and test and evaluation equipment * Establishing and applying PE Controller best practices from design to product launch, including supporting validation and testing * Creating, promoting, and implementing the global FCA technology roadmap for PE Controllers * Supporting creation of Component Specifications from vehicle, system and software requirements including requirements for Durability, Warranty, Safety and Performance at component level * Supporting development of power electronic controller DVP&R and all required development/validation testing to ensure achievement of all functional objectives and assure compliance to program goals * Participating in supplier assessments and Critical Design Reviews of PE Controller requirements, algorithms, and deliverables * Working with the chosen suppliers and manufacturing entities to ensure designs are robust to customer requirements, meet exact function, and are manufacturable without defect * Participating in post-test inspection reviews including detailed failure analysis, and recommend changes to product specifications as necessary * Developing/enhancing PE Controller Tools, Methods, and Test Platforms * Providing subject matter expertise, mentoring, and managing problem resolution teams * Working with FCA Inverter Hardware Teams and Suppliers * Working with FCA cross-function/vehicle teams, suppliers, and universities to develop/implement advanced technologies for next generation electric vehicle technologies * Maintaining relevant technical documents, best practice, and sign-off documents Basic Qualifications: * Master's degree in Electrical, Computer, Mechanical or equivalent Engineering Degree * Minimum 7 years' experience in electronics and circuit design, development, fabrication, validation * Expertise in electronics Simulation Tools * Experience in microcontroller families, architectures, and hardware-software interface * Experience in PCB layout and EMC considerations * Experience in controller communications and sensor interfaces * Experience in controller Functional Safety * Experience in development of DFMEA, DVP&R, and Validation Plans * Demonstrated critical thinking and technical problem solving ability * Highly rated for leadership and teamwork * Excellent written and verbal communication skills * Strong interest in the automotive industry and electrified powertrain systems Preferred Qualifications: * PhD in Electrical, Computer, Mechanical or equivalent Engineering Degree * Minimum 10 years' experience in electronics and circuit design, development, fabrication, validation * In-depth understanding of Power Electronics * Experience with electric motor and inverter Controls and Software * Understanding of electrified vehicle fundamentals * Outstanding interpersonal skills, self-motivated and able to work independently * Knowledge in DFSS methodologies * Ability to travel 5-10% internationally Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Auburn Hills MI
