System Director Nursing Professional Practices

Working with the Vice President, the Chief Nurse Executive is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing various functions, including nursing quality improvement and standards of professional practice. Oversees the functioning of the Divisional Level Nursing Council, provides support to unit based shared governance councils. Oversees the Nursing Policy and Procedure committee. Provides leadership to nursing management on financial and budgetary compliance. Oversees the documentation and forms process. Provides leadership and oversight to the organization's pursuit of Magnet status. Responsible for oversight of nursing quality and research . Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served.

MSN, progressively increased responsibility and experience in hospital setting with nursing and operational leadership, and knowledge of Magnet required

Experience in programmatic development and planning preferred

License or registration consistent with clinical background (must be in good standing and valid in the state of Michigan)

Work which produces high levels of mental/visual fatigue, e.g., interactive and repetitive or small detailed work requiring alertness and concentration for sustained periods of time, the operation of and full attention to a personal computer or CRT between 40 and 70 percent of the time. The job produces some physical demands. Typical of jobs that include regular walking, standing, stooping, bending, sitting, and some lifting of light weight objects.

  • Assesses and defines data needs for quality metrics, scorecard development and tracking/trending.

  • Collects and analyses demographic, clinical data from a wide variety of sources across the system

  • Collaborates with executive and operational leadership to identify clinical quality improvements

  • Develops plans to support recommendations regarding identified improvement initiatives

  • Assists with the deployment and integration of the nursing vision that aligns with the strategic vision for the system and our Plan for Excellence.

  • Participates in the strategic planning and development for nursing and nursing model.

  • Participates and coordinates with nursing education clinical staff education, nursing student and GN education and orientation.

  • Coordinates and identified the educational needs of nursing across the facilities to ensure a well-educated, evidence based nursing organization.

  • Initiates and completes gap analysis for Magnet; or other identified nursing excellence initiatives with facility nursing and nursing leadership

  • Recommends areas for priority focus for nursing excellence attainment

  • Tracks and collates appropriate metrics for leadership to attain desired status with excellence

  • Assists with deployment of shared governance model. Providing facility leadership with gap analysis, structure opportunities and development of the shared governance.

  • Tracks and coordinates information from each shared governance structure for sharing with system CNE for utilization of system wide nurse driven initiatives.

  • Utilizes for research on evidence based practice and unit level knowledge and implementation

  • Participates in a wide variety of task forces and committees.

  • Leads project and operational teams on projects to implementation phase.

  • Leads development teams of physicians, staff and operational personnel in the planning and development of assigned services and products.

  • Leads nursing quality initiatives for system wide implementation and tracks outcomes and compliance.

  • Works collaboratively with System Nursing Support for the advancement of evidence based nursing practice, research and excellence.

  • Monitors assigned budgets to ensure compliance within or below.
