JOB SUMMARY

Directs the management of the Hospital Medical Staff Offices and System Credentials Verification Office. Provides System support and leadership to the Directors/Managers of Medical Staff Services at the local level.

Is supportive of the existing relationships of the Directors/Managers of Medical Staff Services reporting to Hospital Leadership at the hospital local level. Oversees and is a resource to the Medical Staff Office Directors/Managers of PeaceHealth who provide administrative and managerial support to the PeaceHealth Medical Staffs, the structures and functions. Serves as the System leader in promoting/maintaining positive and collaborative rapport and effective communications between the Medical Staff, Administration, and the PeaceHealth organization.

Monitors compliance with regulatory agencies standards, and Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and regulations. Assures the efficient operation of Medical Staff Services including continuing medical education, institutional review functions, and provider/payor credentialing. Researches, develops and implements necessary systems addressing Medical Staff and organization needs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1.Assures the daily activities of Medical Staff Services with the PeaceHealth hospitals are appropriately managed including credentialing, appointment proctoring and reappointment and ensures high quality services.
2.Assures compliance with regulatory standards relating to Medical Staff structure function and process to include DNV, CMS and other regulatory entities.
3.Develops and maintains teamwork from a system level, essential for the effective and efficient operation of the PeaceHealth Medical Staff Offices and supporting functions.
4.Oversees Credentialing databases essential for carrying out required Medical Staff Credentialing functions. Conducts needs assessments, identifies vendor(s), coordinates database implementations and maintenance of required medical staff data and medical staff functions.
5.Works with Medical Staff Leadership, Directors/Managers and Coordinators to define and modify workflow to enable the Medical Staff offices to meet the needs of the Medical Staff credentialing functions.
6.Works to develop a PeaceHealth System approach to applicable aspects of Medical Staff Credentialing and peer review functions. Strives to develop tools, templates, privilege lists and policies which could be used by Medical Staff Leadership and Medical Staff Office professionals.
7.Works with VPMA to assist Medical Staff Leadership in developing and implementing physician orientation programs for new and staff leaders and staff membership as well as ongoing Medical Staff education.
8.Anticipates future needs and assists Medical Staff Office Directors in developing departmental budgets and assures they are managed in fiscally responsible manner. Conducts periodic assessments of Medical Staff Office Resources and provides report to System VP Clinical Excellence and VPMA
9.At a system level, supports the Medical Staff Officers and Leadership in carrying out their duties.
10. Works closely with the System VPMA and System VP Clinical Excellence to address and resolve issues that arise relating to Medical Staff Credentialing and overall medical staff functions.
11. Assures the Medical Staff Offices meet the needs of the Medical Staffs which is aligned with the customer services goals, strategic direction and mission of the organization.
12. Assures Credentialing functions are meeting the needs of the PeaceHealth Medical Group
13. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

Experience/Training:

  • Minimum of seven years' experience managing medical affairs, operations or in a large acute care healthcare facility.

  • Demonstrated ability in problem-solving and decision-making.

  • Experience with credentialing software systems.

License/Certification:

  • CMSC and/or CPCS required.

Other Skills:

  • Management skills to facilitate compliance with JCAHO standards and other regulatory agencies

  • Demonstrated ability to work with physicians and all levels of management and public, sensitive personalities and confidential data

  • Ability to prioritize workload, to work independently and delegate effectively

  • Must be detail oriented and well organized

  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Proficient computer skills including MS Office applications
