Job brief:

We are looking for a System Administrator to join our team in our SF Bay headquarters. You will ensure that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational standards and are functioning optimally. Strong networking, troubleshooting, database, and application deployment/maintenance skills are crucial. This role represents a key technical position supporting IT, Operations, and Development organizations. The individual hired for this role will be closely involved with design, implementation, maintenance, and monitoring of all aspects of our IT management as well as our cloud-based infrastructure (AWS/GCP).

In your role, you will:

  • Setup & Maintain computer server infrastructure.

  • Setup & Maintain mobile device management systems such as Meraki, Drivestrike, Mosyle, and SecureDoc.

  • Maintain essential IT operations, including operating systems, security tools, applications, servers, VPNs, email systems, laptops, desktops, software, and hardware.

  • Manage our IT infrastructure and perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems, and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups, etc.

  • Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions; perform ongoing efficacy assessment of security policies and systems; review, recommend, and implement security systems and tools in support of the company's security policies.

  • Provide immediate, direct customer support and troubleshooting help to end users through email, telephone, and personal communication.

  • Investigate and troubleshoot complex infrastructure and systems issues as they escalate.

  • Repair and recover from hardware or software failures. Coordinate and communicate with impacted parties.

  • Apply OS patches and upgrades regularly, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure / add new services as necessary.

  • Upgrade and configure system software and hardware as needed in coordination with the engineering group.

  • Maintain operational, configuration, or other procedures. Ensure that policies are adhered to.

  • Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required. Configure Load balancer, CPU, memory, and disks as required.Serve as a key stakeholder in all infrastructure-related incident response, and correction efforts.

  • Develop and maintain documentation.

Experience, knowledge, and skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.

  • Systems Administration/System Engineer certification or equivalent in Unix.

  • Four to six years of system administration experience.

  • Experience with operating systems: Ubuntu, MacOS, Windows.

  • Experience with configuration automation technologies: SaltStack, Ansible, Python.

  • Experience with monitoring and log aggregation technologies: Grafana, Prometheus, Loki, ELK Stack.

  • Hands-on experience with virtualization, storage, networking, web technologies, and multiple operating systems.

  • Understanding of server hardware and virtual hardware, storage hardware, and data center topology and architecture.

  • Willingness to coach and/or train peers on technical matters.

  • Must be detail-oriented, possess good communication skills and habits, and like to work in a highly transparent environment.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with cloud technologies: AWS / GCP3-5 years experience with cloud-hosted web application infrastructure (GCP / AWS)AWS/GCP Developer, DevOps, or Cloud Practitioner certification

  • Experience in GitHub, GitLab, or other source control systems

  • Experience with Docker, Jenkins, and Python

  • Experience with DevOps development processes/methodologies; including CI/CDExperience building and supporting robotics product infrastructure
