Aquila Technology is seeking a Senior Systems Administrator to support an enterprise-wide Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI). The right candidate will provide expert level, hands-on VMware Horizon View experience while supporting the VDI, including best-practice expertise to devise optimal configuration settings for the environment, VMware's User Dynamic Environment Manager (DEM), Application Volumes (App Vol), and a working knowledge of a Cisco HX Hyper Converged Infrastructure (HCI). They will also exhibit proficiency in creating, configuring, maintaining and supporting desktop images used within the VDI infrastructure, including desktop operating systems (Windows/Linux), the common suite of Microsoft applications (Microsoft Office to include O365), and other client specific software.

Additional Responsibilities Include:

  • Maintain an expert level of knowledge with the release of new versions of relevant VMWare tools and plan/scope upgrades with minimal user impact

  • Support on-site IT staff during update, upgrade and enhancement events

  • Develop and provide metrics to track systems status, performance, capacity, and forecasting system capacity requirements / improvements

  • Tune platforms to ensure expected availability and performance levels are achieved

  • Ensure system and architectures are maintained, updated and upgraded as required from vendor recommendations and in alignment with organizational policy

  • Provide 2nd & 3rd level support to customers and other administrative staff in area of expertise. Respond to requests and resolve issues and problems using ticketing system.

  • Ensure all devices are under configuration management and remain current and up to date.

  • Monitor performance metrics and log data for continuous improvement and tuning.

  • Evaluate of new tools, services or products as well as changes to existing products and services.

  • Participate in development and maintenance of security infrastructure roadmap.

  • Develop, publish, and maintains system documentation (e.g. Requirements, Design/Build, Testing, and SOP) according to department standards.

  • Participate in department projects and policy/procedure writing as needed.

Required Skills:

  • This is not an infrastructure position only supporting virtualized server environments, specific VDI skillsets are required.

  • Expertise with VMware Horizon View environment including Connection Servers, pools, vCenter, thin/zero clients utilizing the Just-in-time architecture desktop pools, including but not limited to:

  • Using VMware's Dynamic Environment Manager (DEM) for user profile management

  • Using App Volumes to virtualize their clinical and office applications

  • Knowledge of ESX cluster running on a Cisco HX HCI cluster

  • Expert ability to install, configure, optimize, and maintain VMware Horizon View

  • Expert hands-on administration experience with VMware tools including ESX, ESXi/vSphere, vCenter, vMotion, DRS, vRealize Operations Manager and other virtualization technologies and concepts.

  • Strong fundamental knowledge of Active Directory Administration, GPOs

  • Strong network skills (e.g. routing, switching and TCP/IP protocol)

  • Deep understanding of VMware core components, their relationship to storage and networking, and a proficiency in datacenter design methodologies.

  • Strong foundational skills in organizing and managing technical projects

  • Document processes and procedures.

  • Excellent customer service skills and exceptional customer facing skills

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

Preferred Skills:

  • VMWare Certifications

  • Experience with VDI Assessment Tools such as Liquidware Stratusphere

  • Scripting experience, as well as experience with task automation.

Qualifications and Background:

  • MS OR BS and at least one certification

  • At least 8 years of applicable experience.

  • Willing to go through an extensive background investigation.

The right candidate will join the Advanced Lasercom Systems and Operations Group, where prototype space and airborne Lasercom terminals are developed, built, and operated. Responsibilities: Perform various System Administration duties in a large, physical and virtual Linux environment. Assist in implementing, supporting, and troubleshooting Linux issues relating to performance, compliance and security hardening. The ideal candidate will have a fundamental understanding of Linux concepts, including file/directory permissions, users and groups, service management, and interfacing with hardware. They must also be eager to learn and grow in other areas such as storage administration, VMWare and networking. This position will provide server and desktop level support to the group as well as various programs/projects. Required Skills: * Experience (1-3 years of experience) with implementing and supporting Linux systems (RHEL/CentOS/Fedora preferred) * Experience implementing and supporting Linux in R&D Lab environment * Experience utilizing basic package and repository maintenance * Experience troubleshooting third party Linux drivers * Knowledge of account management using OpenLDAP, SSSD,etc. * Demonstrated troubleshooting of complex/distributed networks and systems (logs, dmesg etc) * Knowledge of Linux security hardening principles and best practices * Experience providing system and hardware level support on Dell Server/Desktop technology as well as end user support * Proven ability to learn and implement unfamiliar technologies * Research into new technologies that can enhance productivity for us or our customers * Document IT procedures Preferred Skills: * Experience troubleshooting/working with networking protocols * Experience implementing/managing enterprise storage * Experience supporting/implementing virtualization technologies * Experience maintaining enterprise backup solutions * Experience utilizing/implementing Dev Ops tool sets * Scripting experience (language agnostic) * A current Linux certification: RHEL or LPIC * A current CompTIA Security+ with CE Other Qualifications and Requirements: * Associates degree OR Technical School Certificate OR 1 or more Certifications. * At least 3 years of applicable experience. * Position requires U.S. Citizenship * Position requires a Secret security clearance or the ability to obtain a Secret security clearance with the US government Travel: None Telecommute: No Aquila Technology Burlington MA
