Hexagon is seeking a Resident System Administrator (RSA) to join our team at Baltimore/Washington International Airport! This is an onsite role.

The System Administrator will provide on-going System Administration and maintenance services. The resident position entails working for the customer site alongside the customer IT, Communications Center staff. The position is focused on the Hexagon Public Safety Dispatch, and Mobile system(s) and includes:

  • The RSA will administer the servers that are part of the CAD environment. Administration support will be provided for the Operating Systems and Servers hosting the CAD system. The RSA will manage the servers supporting the Hexagon provided systems. The RSA provides a single point of contact for all configuration and general support issues for the computer systems supporting the Hexagon[1]furnished software. As such, the RSA's duties are mainly focused on the Operating Systems and the Server hardware. Specific duties include the following:
  • Develop Test plans and test/assist in testing of OS Releases and Updates for the CAD systems, including Servers and Desktops.
  • Package OS release and security patches and test against standard images and OS and push to production
  • Following established communications policies ensure that end users are notified prior to changes being rolled to production.
  • Test and manage Anti-Virus Updates for the Servers and Desktops.
  • Test, install, and re-install operating systems and operating system upgrades on servers supporting CAD.
  • Following approved Change Management Processes, make approved changes to the Operating System or hardware to enhance performance or reliability.
  • Develop, maintain, and document system support and maintenance procedures designed to ensure platform stability and enhance hardware performance
  • Develop and maintain troubleshooting processes and procedures, update knowledge base as needed, and train team members on the use of the procedures
  • Troubleshoot issues referred from the end user support team, Customer Management, or other sources, related to CAD supporting hardware and operating systems, performing diagnostic actions to identify the source of the issue and restore functionality
  • Log trouble tickets related to Server issues and escalate within Hexagon or to external suppliers as required. Report ticket status as called for by escalation and reporting processes.
  • Restore server application and database functions for CAD servers
  • Monitor Servers and storage for capacity, performance, and reliability for CAD using Hexagon provided tools such as ESMD and Solarwinds.
  • Receive and respond to electronic notifications generated by the CAD environment.
  • Perform routine server and Operating Systems operations and maintenance tasks for Microsoft OS, to include setup, configuration, and log file reviews.
  • Develop and maintain Operating System scripts designed to automate routine tasks and enhance system reliability.
  • Coordinate, oversee, and ensure reliability of system backups.
  • Support Disaster Recovery testing, and assist the Customer team with Disaster Recovery/Continuity of Operations.
  • Administer OS level system security settings and accounts in accordance with Customer policies.
  • Provide the interface with Hexagon second-level engineers to expedite on-site support and answer complex system questions or configuration issues. Maryland Aviation Administration (BWI) CAD Resident Systems Administrators.
  • Assist with IT audits for Security and Infrastructure, to include performing system changes that result from audit findings.
  • Assist with testing of new hardware and software components for the CAD environment.
  • Report and document any service disruptions within the CAD environment related to the Servers and the Operating systems. Ensure that Customer personnel are notified of the outages and their resolutions.
  • Provide setup, configuration, database backups, database performance and general Hexagon System administration duties.
  • Perform Hexagon CAD-MPS server setup and configuration.
  • Perform routine, daily operational tasks applicable to Hexagon System operations, such as purging system log files, checking database size, and checking status of applicable CAD interfaces and remote connections.
  • Manage the CAD-MPS system security and access to the Hexagon System per Customer instructions and security plan.
  • Develop and maintain Hexagon System Support procedures as needed.
  • Perform the first level of diagnostics for failures, identifying hardware or software problems.
  • Perform the scheduling and administration of the CAD-MPS server backups and recovery of data and configuration files per the Customer's guidelines.
  • Change, customize and manage user configurable forms for the CAD-MPS software (where possible).
  • Monitor Hexagon System loading and provide guidance on efficient use of equipment and software.
  • Monitor and adjust CAD database system parameters and Hexagon system operations for peak performance.
  • Assist Customer training staff in development of workflows, operating procedures to improve dispatcher efficiency or deploy new functionality.
  • Install and administer operating system software on CAD-MPS servers as it relates to the use of the Hexagon CAD-MPS system, or utilities and service packs as purchased from Hexagon to maintain the system.
  • Administer CAD user accounts and passwords as directed by the Customer's system administrator.
  • Aid in Advance Order 1 as specified therein and other upgrades. Since CAD interface software upgrades can be a major work effort on an active system, additional resources will be needed to handle the workload. Hexagon can provide quotes for these services as needed.
  • Train the Customer's technical staff for backup Hexagon System Administration duties via hands on, daily work apprenticeships.
  • Document any system anomalies for inclusion into periodic site reports as requested.
  • Conduct Operating System patch and Service Pack testing and deployment for CAD servers as well as provide support of Customer IT team efforts to certify patches and updates.
  • Participate in CAD application update testing and deployment.
  • System reliability monitoring.
  • Complex issue troubleshooting and resolution.
  • Support for Disaster Recovery testing.
