Cepeda Systems and Software Analysis of Huntsville, AL is currently seeking a full-time System Administrator with 3+ years Linux Systems Administration.

The System Administrator will be expected to:

  • Conduct day-to-day system administration of the hardware and software in a software test and integration lab.

  • Assist in hardware and software installation, configuration, troubleshooting, scanning, and patching and backup of client servers and workstations.

  • Perform hardware and software upgrades and assist in integration and test setup.

  • Apply security patches and recommended operating system (OS) patches.

  • Participate in software and hardware testing for tactical systems.

  • Support, troubleshoot, and resolve software/hardware conflicts/problems on a variety of platforms (RedHat Enterprise Linux, CentOS workstations, VMware ESXi 5.5/6.0, VMware vCenter, etc.).

  • Perform system performance tuning and performs backups and restores.

  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve client server and workstation related problems.

  • Follow established software/hardware baseline configuration to set up, maintain, and configure client servers, associated client workstations, and peripherals.

  • Assist the ISSM/ISSO (Information Systems Security Manager/Information Systems Security Officer) with documentation required for RMF compliance.

  • Responsible for coordinating and communicating activities, status updates, outage notifications and schedule information.

  • Prepares required documentation, including both program-level and user-level documentation.

This is a full-time position. Monday through Friday, 8 hours.


  • BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or an equivalent technical degree.

  • 3+ years Linux Systems Administration

  • Active DOD Secret security clearance or ability to obtain and maintain (US Citizenship is required)

  • Prior tactical SA experience in HWIL lab environment.

  • Experience with Windows and Virtual Machine (VM) environments.

  • Experience with networking and configuring network devices such as switches, routers and firewalls.

  • Experience with RedHat Enterprise Linux, CentOS workstations, VMware ESXi 5.5/6.0, VMware vCenter, etc.

  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and oral/written communication skills for effective interaction with skills within a team-based environment with customers and other IT personnel.

  • Possess strong script troubleshooting and generation for applying STIG and best practice requirements

  • Strong working knowledge of Linux operating systems.

  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Experience with DoD or Army Defense programs

  • Experience with Windows 10 and Windows Server 2012/2016

  • Experience with authentication against a Windows domain controller.

  • Experience with configuration and automation tools such as Ansible, Chef, and/or Puppet

  • Bash scripting

  • Automated OS installations

This is a full-time position, located in Huntsville, AL. Duties: This position will support the Army Futures Command (AFC) development of a persistent cloud-enabled distributed M&S and HWIL architecture(s) to demonstrate and test platform-to-platform interoperability at scale against evolving threats. Technical support services include the maintenance, development, enhancement, integration, and use of distributed simulations for AFC events. Your day-to-day activities include, but are not limited to: * Analyze, design, and implement new technology to the distributed network enterprise. * Maintain Windows servers and workstations configuration baselines to adhere with policy, accreditation and regulatory requirements * Apply Operating System and application Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) and patches to meet Risk Management Framework (RMF) controls and other security requirements. * Assist other sites with software installation, implementation, network troubleshooting, troubleshooting, and general systems usage/best practice. * Liaison between clients and technical team to understand, define, and solve issues. * Define and analyze software problems to develop testing standards and provide documentation for configurable systems, software, and operating procedures. * Maintains inventory control. * Travel to other distributed sites. * Communicate tactfully and effectively with persons on all levels while maintaining professional and productive relationships. Required Qualifications: * 3+ years of related professional experience in the following * Windows and Linux/Unix computer environment at the command line as well as with applications such as Microsoft Office, Open Office tools, and SharePoint repositories. * IA / RMF / SITGs best practices and a proven track record and related past performance in protecting a classified systems compliance environment. * Experience with continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) and automated deployments. * Red Hat Certified Systems Administrator (RHCSA), and/or LPIC (Linux Professional Institute Certificate), and/or CompTIA Linux+ certificate)). * Security+ or equivalent DoD Directive 8570.07-M certifications. * Secret clearance. Desired Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems Management, related discipline or equivalent experience * Experience with various simulation architectures. * Working knowledge of virtualization: RedHat Virtualization (RHEV/oVirt), VMWare, Microsoft Hyper-V, or equivalent. * Familiarity with Microsoft Azure resources and services. * TS clearance.
