Automation and standardization are critical to our success, and we are looking for someone to work closely with the Director of Technical Services to help develop better processes that facilitate this goal. A strong understanding of cyber security and IT best practices would be desired as well. The applicant must be able to work independently and possess strong communication skills.

Requirements

  • Experience with firewalls, WAN, and VPN configurations
  • Understanding of and experience with cloud based solutions, including:
    • Microsoft 365 / Office 365
    • Azure, including AD services and hosting
    • AWS
    • Scripting language skills with Perl, PHP, Python, etc.
    • Must be proficient in PowerShell
  • Familiarity with IT security best practices
  • Line of business application maintenance and support
  • Familiarity with change management practices as relates to IT infrastructure
  • Highly effective written and oral communication skills
  • The ability to prioritize multiple projects / tasks
  • Willing to work in a dynamic, fast-paced, team-oriented environment

University Information Technology Services (UITS) is seeking candidates for the position of Senior Infrastructure Automation Engineer (System Administrator, Senior), to join the Operations Team. The Operations Team currently manages, maintains, configures, and monitors on-premises and Cloud-based data center infrastructure running on various servers including Linux. The selected candidate will possess the necessary skills to leverage the use of Cloud-based infrastructure while being responsible for orchestrating processes-based solutions using industry standard as well as custom automation. Additionally, UITS is migrating existing systems to a variety of Cloud host solutions. As a result, this position is cross-functional managing both traditional systems administration and Cloud-centric responsibilities. Duties & Responsibilities * Responsible for evaluating current and future-state initiatives and providing expertise and hands-on experience automating and orchestrating IT software and services. * Responsible for the availability, performance, security, and maintenance of production on-premises and Cloud-based infrastructure servers and systems. * Collaborate with Cloud Architects and DevOps teams in the development of integrated, automated, orchestrated and application-oriented architectures for Cloud-based services. * Evaluate systems and applications software including the impact of software updates and patches. * Analyze, install, configure (with automation in mind) and maintain operating, network and other systems software and utilities for on-premises and Cloud-based infrastructure * Participate in maintaining data recoverability; implement and maintain data backup, and disaster recovery procedures for on-premises and multi-cloud environments ensuring an automated fashion to data protection. * Build and maintain the infrastructure in on-premises and Cloud Environments with automation and orchestrated principles. * Participate in planning for system development and expansion of on-premises and Cloud Environments. * Analyze and determine the cause of systems software failures, hardware failures, and performance deficiencies. * Coordinate, plan and perform hardware maintenance and repair as needed. * Document existing and new infrastructure deployments. * Establish and implement system guidelines, practices, procedures, and standards. * Provide training and expertise within team and peer workgroups. * Research and resolve questions from users, management and other technical personnel. * Coordinate systems maintenance with other internal/external teams and systems administrators. * Review DNS, firewall, server architecture, etc. requests for appropriateness. * Administer SAN and NAS storage arrays. * Implement computer software and hardware licensing, warranty and vendor service agreements. * Apply system updates and configuration changes when necessary. * Administer load balancer technologies for on-premises and Cloud Environments. * Perform other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities * Linux server experience in an enterprise environment including but not limited to knowledge in: o Development of automated services with built-in orchestration o New service provisioning o Performance and capacity monitoring o User and group management o Configuration management o SFTP server administration o Maintain scripts in system languages including, but not limited to, Perl, Ruby, Python, Bash * Skill in designing, installing, configuring and maintaining computer hardware, operating and application systems and utilities including high availability systems. * Datacenter equipment maintenance. * General knowledge of DNS and DHCP. * Knowledge of computer systems administration theory, principles, and practices. * Knowledge of current computer security practices and network protocols. * Knowledge of current and emerging software and hardware technologies. * A strong track record of understanding and interest in current and emerging technologies demonstrated through training, job experience, and/or industry activities. * Ability to work as part of a cross-functional team. * Ability to quickly learn new skills and technologies. * Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing. * Ability to multi-task between multiple complex projects and operational requests. * Ability to occasionally bend, squat, climb short ladders and lift 30 lbs. without assistance. * Ability to occasionally drive to other UITS managed sites.
