Overview

The System Administrative Vice President, Heart & Vascular Institute, Novant Health Specialty Institutes ("VP") will lead strategy, growth, and operations, including quality and safety, for Heart and Vascular service lines across core and growth markets in accordance with the organizations' mission, vision, values, strategy, and direction over both the short- and long-term. The VP will oversee Institute program development, maintenance, and performance through Institute growth, joint ventures or new businesses, and strategic initiative processes. The VP will provide direct administrative support to the Novant Health Heart and Vascular System Physician Executive to ensure achievement of financial and operational performance. This support may include development and implementation of clinical programs, budget tracking, volume projections, financial analysis, collaborating with other NH functions, maintaining accreditations and compliance, and more. The VP will build relationships and collaborate with Novant Health Market, Medical Group, and Institute-specific leaders to ensure optimized Institute operations in support of strategic objectives. More specifically, the VP will closely collaborate with the President, Novant Health Specialty Institutes and Chief Operating Officer, NHE Ambulatory and with the SVP, COO Novant Health Medical Group and SVP Network Development and Affiliations on topics within the Specialty Institutes.

The VP will additionally partner with NH and NHE stakeholders to develop a strategic plan to support the expansion of Heart and Vascular Institute. Specific duties for the VP include leading strategic program growth and operations for the Heart and Vascular Institute. The VP will proactively develop initiatives and programs to ensure quality & safety, operational, and financial measures are achieved, and will coordinate with appropriate stakeholders for initiative implementation.

Qualifications

  • Education: 4 Year / Bachelor's Degree B.S. or B.A., required. Graduate Degree, MHA or MBA, preferred.

  • Experience: Min of 8 yrs. successful strategic healthcare analysis, strategic planning and development experience or comparable experience,required. Min of 3 yrs. successful leadership experience, at director level,required.

  • Additional skills required:

  • Extensive clinical experience in strategic planning, program development and growth, coordinating operational and financial management of a service line.

  • Demonstrated track record of overseeing teams that achieve operational and financial results, as well as delivering on patient satisfaction and a remarkable patient experience.

  • Proven experience in cultivating and managing projects to improve operational, clinical, and financial performance.

  • Proven ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with clinical personnel, including with leaders across a larger health system (e.g., corporate services, acute care market leadership).

  • Demonstrated success in roles with executive leadership responsibilities at a large, not-for-profit healthcare company, ideally with prior experience in North Carolina.

  • Ability to effectively articulate strategic and clinical initiatives and financial results and to proactively respond to questions from both Novant Health leaders and administrative partners.

  • Extensive knowledge and experience with requirements of key regulatory agencies and accreditation standards.

Responsibilities

Develop and lead strategic program growth and operational excellence for the Heart and Vascular Institute in core and growth markets, including supporting Heart and Vascular System Physician Executive

  • Develop Heart and Vascular strategic vision and growth plans to drive financial and operational performance in core and growth markets

  • To support growth plans, develop and lead implementation of detailed strategic initiatives, including expansion of existing service lines or creation of new service lines and other modes of business development for Heart and Vascular

  • Develop process to track progress across strategic initiatives, and escalate performance improvement or risks/support needed as necessary to ensure growth aspirations are achieved

  • Provide direct administrative support to Heart and Vascular System Physician Executive to drive operating precision in day-to-day care delivery and care expansion efforts

  • Provide administrative support to the President, Novant Health Specialty Institutes and Chief Operating Officer, NHE Ambulatory, and the Chief Operating Officer, Novant Health Medical Group and SVP Network Development and Affiliations to support in-flight initiatives such as physician productivity, patient access, and continuity of care

  • Collaborate with Novant Health Market, Medical Group, and Institute-specific leaders to ensure optimized Institute operations and collaboration between specialty and primary care services

  • Support ASC growth and surgical site of care optimization to drive care expansion

  • Support service line operational advancement with innovative input and resources, including promoting alignment between Institutes and CHAWI regarding digital offerings and the expansion of digital / virtual health services

  • Build and maintain connectivity to independent groups in core markets (e.g., as appropriate, serve on Boards, support co-management/ JV agreements, manage call coverage issues)

  • Ensure quality and safety standards are met system-wide for Heart and Vascular Institute, and intervene and escalate issues as needed to ensure performance improvement

  • Provides information, assessments, summaries and recommendations pertaining to core market growth initiatives for both the Heart and Vascular Institute

  • Supervise direct reports who will assist in accomplishing future goals related to growth and development of Novant Health

Support development of expansion plans for Heart and Vascular Institute

  • Provide administrative support to monitor performance for growth and strategic initiatives

  • Partner with Novant Health and NHE stakeholders on developing a plan to expand the Heart and Vascular service lines as needed

  • Build and maintain relationships and strategic partnerships with independent physician groups and support the recruitment of additional employed surgical specialists in the area to ensure adequate physician capacity to support the expanded patient population

Strategic compensation alignment

  • In both core and growth markets, ensure compliant, strategic compensation in partnership with third-party entities

Coordinate with and support Novant Health shared services for Heart and Vascular Institute

  • Support Human Resources-related activities in Heart and Vascular service lines where needed, including but not limited to hiring, mentoring, and disciplinary action

  • In partnership with DPS, ensure an optimally functioning EMR system featuring the latest upgrades, and escalate any issues or outages experienced

  • Engage with Marketing function to ensure sufficient, coordinated marketing support for Institute expansion

  • Partner with NH Physician RCM to manage RCM-related services and support Heart and Vascular Institute with any issues experienced, including interactions with payors

  • Maintain external relationships with third-party partners and negotiate favorable agreements with key vendors

  • Support the overall clinical, operational, and financial performance across ambulatory areas, including performance of the MSO

Other core responsibilities

  • Develop budgeting and financial reports for Heart and Vascular, in partnership with operational finance, to share with Market Leaders

  • Oversee management of attaining accreditations (e.g., Coc, NAPBC, QOPI, FACT)

  • Monitor relevant changes in healthcare industry that may impact ambulatory / physician areas, such as compliance, regulations, and economic and legislative issues

  • Support addressment of risk concerns and responding to audits, ensure compliance with federal, state, and national regulatory agencies
